HC Wake-Up Call: Trump’s 24-Year-Old Drug Policy Appointee Resigns After Questions Over His Work History, Burger King Shows Support for Net Neutrality & Oprah, Mindy Kaling & Reese Witherspoon Are Now Barbies

Good morning Her Campus! With a break-neck news cycle, there is no possible way for you to stay on top of every story that comes across your feeds—we’re all only human, after all.

But, life comes at you fast. So grab a cup of coffee and settle in for this quick and dirty guide to stories you might’ve been sleeping on (like, literally. It’s early.)

Trump’s 24-Year-Old Drug Policy Appointee Resigns After Questions Over His Work History

Taylor Weyeneth, Trump’s 24-year-old drug policy appointee, is stepping down after contradicting resumes were found and his work experience was questioned, The Washington Examiner reports.

The 24-year-old was appointed as the White House liaison to the Office of National Drug Control Policy and promoted to deputy chief of staff despite having any work experience other than working on Trump’s presidential campaign.

Questioning regarding Weyeneth’s work experience began last week after The Washington Post reported that there were three resumes circulating for Weyeneth, all of which contradicted each other.

According to The Washington Examiner, Weyeneth’s resume listed that he had worked at a law firm, but the law firm told The Washington Post that he was fired after simply not showing up for work.

Weyeneth’s resume also listed that he had a master’s degree from Fordham University; however, the university confirmed that Weyeneth was attending the school, but had not yet earned his degree, The Washington Examiner reports.

Deputy White House press secretary Raj Shah confirmed Weyeneth’s resignation to The Washington Examiner on Thursday, saying, “Mr. Weyeneth has decided to depart ONDCP at the end of the month.”

Burger King Shows Their Support for Net Neutrality by Using Whoppers

With their latest social experiment using their famous Whoppers, Burger King is showing that it is a proud supporter of net neutrality — the federal policy that required all internet traffic to be treated equally by internet service providers. The Federal Communications Commission voted in December to get rid of the Obama administration policy.

According to NBC News, Burger King released a video titled “Whopper Neutrality,” where they pranked their customers and try to help explain what net neutrality actually means.

When the FCC voted to get rid of net neutrality, it basically allowed internet providers to create “fast and slow lanes for subscribers — and open up higher fees that could be passed down to users,” NBC News reports.

Using the Whopper, Burger King explained this by creating different prices for Whoppers based on “Mbps,” which stands for megabits per second and is how download and upload speeds are measured. In this case, however, it stood for “making burgers per second.” For a “slow Mbps,” customers were asked to pay $4.99 for their Whopper. If the customer wanted a “fast Mbps,” they had to pay $12.99 for their burger. And if customer wanted a “hyperfast Mbps” Whopper, they had to shell over a whopping (no pun intended) $25.99.

Most customers stuck with the lower price, but one customer actually paid the premium price for his Whopper, NBC News reports.

Burger King’s video ends with the message, “The internet should be like the Whopper: the same for everyone.”

While net neutrality has yet to be resolved, Attorneys general for 21 states and Washington, D.C. are suing to block its repeal, NBC News reports.

Oprah, Mindy Kaling & Reese Witherspoon Are Now Barbies, So Take My Money Now

We are so close to only being a month away from seeing Oprah, Mindy Kaling and Reese Witherspoon grace the silver screen in “A Wrinkle in Time”, and now all of our dreams have been answered because these beautiful women have been turned into Barbies. And you can take all of my money now because I want them all.

According to The Huffington Post, they play Mrs. Which, Mrs. Who and Mrs. Whatsit, respectively, and guide the protagonist, Meg Murry, through the universe to save her father.

Ava DuVernay, the film’s director, shared a photo of the dolls, writing on Twitter, “When Disney makes Barbies of your movie’s characters and you just want to stare at them all day in disbelief because you loved Barbies as a girl but never had any like these.”

Fans are also really excited about the dolls’ diversity, and honestly, we are so proud of this.

“A Wrinkle in Time” hits theaters on March 9. Until then, I am buying one of each.
