Trump, Kim Arrive in Singapore Ahead of Summit
President Donald Trump and North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un arrived in Singapore on Sunday ahead of their June 12 summit.
Air Force One touched down in Singapore early Sunday morning, where Trump was greeted by Singapore’s Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan and the U.S. Embassy’s chargé d’affaires, Stephanie Syptak-Ramnath, according to NBC News.
Kim arrived hours earlier to meet Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. During his meeting with the Prime Minister, Kim told Lee through a translator, “The entire world is watching the historic summit between (North Korea) and the United States of America, and thanks to your sincere efforts … we were able to complete the preparations for the historic summit.”
Trump is also set to meet with Lee.
The president said on Saturday that this summit is a “one time shot” for Kim to show that he is serious about denuclearization.
“I feel that Kim Jong Un wants to do something great for his people and he has that opportunity,” Trump said at a press conference before he departed for Singapore from the G-7 summit in Canada. “He won’t have that opportunity again.”
According to NBC News, Trump said he want to develop a relationship at the least, and predicts that it won’t take long for him to figure out if Kim is genuinely interested in creating a deal that will lead to denuclearization.
“I think within the first minute, I’ll know — just my touch, my feel,” Trump said.
The U.S. delegation for the summit includes Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, National Security Adviser John Bolton, White House Chief of Staff John Kelly and White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders, NBC News reports.
Trump Backs Out of G-7 Communiqué
President Donald Trump announced Saturday that he was pulling out of the Group of Seven’s official statement of common values, The Washington Post reports. The president also accused Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the host of the G-7 conference, of “false statements.”
“Based on Justin’s false statements at his news conference, and the fact that Canada is charging massive Tariffs to our U.S. farmers, workers and companies, I have instructed our U.S. Reps not to endorse the Communique as we look at Tariffs on automobiles flooding the U.S. Market!,” Trump wrote on Twitter after leaving the G-7 conference.

Trump then proceeded to tweet about Trudeau, calling his “dishonest” and “weak.”
“PM Justin Trudeau of Canada acted so meek and mild during our @G7 meetings only to give a news conference after I left saying that, ‘US Tariffs were kind of insulting’ and he ‘will not be pushed around,’” Trump wrote. “Very dishonest & weak. Our Tariffs are in response to his of 270% on dairy!”

Earlier Saturday, during his own press conference, Trudeau criticized Trump’s recent tariffs on steel and aluminum from the European Union, Canada and Mexico, and called it “insulting” that Trump would cite national security as the reason for doing so, The Post reports.
“Canadians, we’re polite, we’re reasonable, but we also will not be pushed around,” Trudeau said his press conference.
On CBS’s “Face the Nation,” White House National Economic Council Director Larry Kudlow confirmed that it was Trudeau’s statements that made Trump back out, saying Trudeau had “betrayed Trump and the G7.”
Trump also said Saturday that he would continue to push Canada and Mexico to renegotiate North American Free Trade Agreement or meet with the leaders separately to create new deals.
American politicians sought to reassure U.S. allies after Trump’s decision.
“To our allies: bipartisan majorities of Americans remain pro-free trade, pro-globalization & supportive of alliances based on 70 years of shared values. Americans stand with you, even if our president doesn’t,” Sen. John McCain wrote on Twitter.
Other G-7 members have said that they stand with the jointly agreed communiqué.
Spain’s Cabinet Now Has a Female Majority
The King of Spain, Felipe VI, swore in the new government of Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, and the cabinet has a female majority.
There are 11 women in the 17-member cabinet, including some of the most powerful ministers, such as education, economy, finance and defense.
Among the 11 women is Carmen Calvo who will now become the equality minister and Maria Jesus Montero will serve as a finance minister, ABC News reports.
Following a terrorist attack in Barcelona in 2017, Sanchez chose former anti-terror prosecutor, Dolores Delgado, to serve as the minister of justice. Meritxell Batet is in charge of the administration of territory.
“This new government is unequivocally committed to equality. You have heard me saying that many times: Spain changed on March 8. There was a before and an after in our country with this feminist mobilization and the new government wants to reflect it,” Sanchez said on Wednesday.
This new government is in stark contrast to the previous government lead by Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy, which was embroiled in a corruption scandal. Only five women served in that cabinet.
In the press conference on Wednesday, Sanchez said his government was feminist, progressive and pro-European.
