The HC Team Weighs In: Our Halloween Costumes

Need some extra inspiration for this weekend? Realized that sometimes in college Halloween isn’t just one night? Have no fear, the HC Team is here! Check out what we’re dressing up as…and feel free to imitate. After all, isn’t that what Halloween is all about?

My apartment-mates and I are each being a different version of Ke$ha. Each of us picked a look from four of her music videos but the general idea is lots of glitter, combat boots, aviators, glitter, a nose ring, huge feather earrings, and did I already say glitter? I think this costume is pretty darn original and we’ve really tried to get the Ke$ha look down to a tee!

  • Raven Rivera, Campus Correspondent, SUNY Binghamton

Six of my friends and I are being those little plastic troll dolls with the crazy hair. It’s easy and funny and we won’t have to spend a lot of money!

  • Jessica Schwartz, Contributing Writer, UT Austin

A group of friends and I are each going to be a major town or city of the United States. I am dressing as Hollywood.

– Leanne Schaub, Campus Correspondent, DePauw University

I am going to be Elmo, I actually was just searching online and I looked at Partycity.com and found a cute dress that’s red like Elmo with a hat and its ADORABLE!! My friend is going to be big bird because that had that one for women as well!!!! I am being Elmo because when I was little I used to LOVEEE Elmo so I thought it was awesome that they had the costume for it.

Captain Hook. Five of my friends and I are dressing up as characters from Peter Pan – Peter Pan, Captain Hook, Wendy, Tiger Lily, Tinkerbell, and one of the mermaids. I came up with the idea as a way for us to dress up together, so that those of us who wanted to be feminine could do so, while I’m personally tired of being a “sexy” character and thought it would be fun to try something new. My other choice is Kevin the bird from Pixar’s Up.

– Elizabeth Tang, Branch Manager, Harvard University

I’m dressing in all metallic silver clothes and wearing a headband that says “kiss” — I’m a Hershey Kiss, hah.

  • Valentina Palladino, Branch Manager, Syracuse University

I am being a big, fat bumblebee! My cousin made a bee costume years ago and pulled it out of storage so I could use it. It has attached legs and a big stinger and it’s so fluffy; I will be completely warm and, when I need a moment, I can nap on myself! To make it a bit more ladylike, I’m wearing a crown so I’m a queen bee.

– Rebekah Meiser, Contributing Writer, Ohio University

I’m doing a group costume with Windsor and Stephanie — Charlie’s Angels!  Everyone says we look like that famous trio, so we decided to go for it this Halloween :) I’m still trying to decide on my individual costume!

  • Annie Wang, Co-founder, CTO, Creative Director, Harvard University

I’m going to be super-creative and go as a goth. It’s the only costume I can get together really fast and that’s totally free because I can just raid my closet and makeup drawer. I’m hoping to have a much more intricate costume next year, when I have more time and/or money!

  • Jen Kach, Campus Correspondent, Penn State

Tony Perkis from the movie Heavyweights. It’s was a super simple costume to put together with just the “Perkis System” t-shirt I found online, spandex shorts, and a black sweat band — and Heavyweights is one of my favorite movies ever!

  • Kassy Sullivan, Campus Correspondent, Colby College

Waluigi from the Mario videogame series. My friends and I wanted a group costume, and this was perfect! It’s fun, cute and comfortable for a night of drinking and running around. The rest of the cast includes: Mario, Luigi, Wario, Peach, and Daisy.

  • Hilary Polak, Campus Correspondent, Bryn Mawr College

I am being a gypsy and Dora the Explorer :)

– Maria Corral, Public Relations, Western Michigan University

I am being WINTER! Four of us live together so we’re all being a different season. We all have tutu-like skirts that I made so the spring one is pastels and wearing rain boots with flowers coming out of them. Fall looks almost like a golden tree. Summer is like a beach ball and I’m like an ice princess (think ice cream queen in Candyland)

– Caroline Bagby, Campus Correspondent, UMass Amherst

An incarcerated Lindsay Lohan — my cousin came up with the idea. I’ll wear a (cute) orange jumpsuit with an alcohol monitor on my ankle!

  • Allie Duncan, Contributing Writer, University of Missouri

Lady Gaga! I wanted to be her last year, but I never got the chance to do it so I am doing it this year when EVERYONE is also doing it, haha. Oh well.

  • Annie Maguire, Editorial Intern, University of Connecticut

I was Tiger Woods for Halloween last year … I had the Nike hat, the red shirt, black pants, black shoes, everything … It makes a lot more sense this year.

– Jake Duhamie, Public Relations, Emerson College

I am being a hot pink shower louffa.

– Kelsey McCormick, Campus Correspondent, Western Michigan University

My best friend and I are being bacon and eggs. There is no particular reason, just a clever costume that we want to wear out one of the nights so we don’t have to worry about looking cute!

  • Ainslie Forsum, Contributing Writer, University of Oregon

I’m going to be a mail-order bride! I got the idea from my roommate and it just fit perfectly because I am a bride-to-be and I work at the post office on campus!

  • Rachel Petersen, Campus Correspondent, James Madison University

A few friends and I are being Mileybirds from Miley Cyrus’s “Can’t Be Tamed” video. We’re planning on wearing all black and assorted feathers… not sure how many people will understand the costume though!

– Quinn Cohane, Digital Media Associate and Branch Manager, Bowdoin College
