Food. Just saying the word has so many meanings and emotions behind it. I am a bit of a food junkie, but I admit I stick to my comfort foods as much as possible. I tend to enjoy my chicken fingers and french fries every now and then but in order to make a change in my body I know that my eating habits must be different.

Holly Perkins suggested to me a few different things when it comes to nutrition and I also added a few thoughts of my own. Here are the tips:

  1. Do drink lots of water. Not only will it flush out the toxins in your body, but your skin will start to look and feel much different! Shoot for 6-8 glasses a day.
  2. Maintain a structured eating plan: Try not to go more than five hours between each meal. Add in a few snacks and load up on protein and healthy vegetables throughout the day!
  3. Eat Breakfast, everyday! This will wake you up and leave you energized for your daily tasks.
  4. Eat protein: Especially important at breakfast because you need that extra boost for performance. Add it to the rest of your meals for extra energy and fullness.

You may be thinking, okay this doesn’t sound to hard but what kind of snacks can I eat? With so many options in the supermarket, it can be hard to pick out healthy items. Below are a few that I love to indulge in because I feel great after eating them and they give me tons of energy!

Pre-Workout Snacks:

  • Almonds
  • Chocolate Milk
  • Protein Shakes or Smoothies
  • Peanut Butter

Post-Workout Snacks:

  • Sugar Free Jello
  • Apples
  • Smoothies
  • Strawberries

Lastly, I wanted to share a few thoughts when it comes to indulging in sugars and fats. I’d be lying if I said I never eat them. Prior to this challenge I was literally addicted to chocolate :) Fats are a part of a balanced diet, but they must be consumed in small portions. I heard this saying once, “You can have it, but half it.” Basically, if you really want that piece of chocolate cake, get it. Just eat one half of it that day and take the rest home for another occasion. You’ll cut the calorie intake in half and you won’t feel too bad afterwards!

Best of luck ladies!
