The series finale of Pretty Little Liars left fans with a ton of questions and a gaping hole in their lives that (desperately) needed to be filled. Thankfully, the void left by PLL will no longer be empty, because the show’s spinoff, Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists, is set to premiere on Freeform in 2019 (which will hopefully feel closer than it sounds).
In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Tonight, the show’s creator, I. Marlene King, dished about everything that fans need to know about the upcoming series—and trust us, it’s going to be insane.
One major question The Perfectionists will answer involves Mona’s creepy Parisian dollhouse. You know the life-size one where she was keeping Alex and Mary Drake captive? Marlene says we’ll “get that answer in a very cheeky Mona way,” and that we’ll get to know Mona better than ever before. She might even be in a romantic relationship.
While the show is inspired by PLL author Sara Shepard’s book series of the same name, it won’t follow the plot exactly, leaving even more surprises for dedicated PLL fans.
The pilot episode with show Ali moving to a town called Beacon Heights to start a new life. But the reason why she’s moved out of Rosewood is going to be a complete surprise.
Whether or not all of our questions ever get answered, there a lot we already know for sure about the premiere of The Perfectionists:
- Sasha Pieterse and Janel Parrish are definitely coming back as Alison DeLaurentis and Mona Vanderwaal
- Sofia Carson of Disney’s Descendants is confirmed to be playing Ava Jalali (a blogger and coder)
- Kelly Rutherford (AKA Lily van der Woodsen in Gossip Girl), will be playing Claire Hotchkiss, the badass mom of the powerful Hotchkiss family
- Sydney Park will be playing Caitlin Martell-Lewis (the over-achieving daughter of two mothers), and Eli Brown as Dylan Wright (a gay cellist looking to escape his small-town roots)
- The show is shot in Portland, Oregon (unlike PLL, which was shot on a Warner Bros. lot)
- It will be premiering in February 2019 and will run for 10 episodes (definitely not enough, in our opinion)
- The first teaser was released on May 15 and gives us a hint at just how intense the show is going to be. Although Emily isn’t seen in the teaser, we will find out where her and Ali’s relationship stands. When asked if we’d be seeing Emily on the show King said that “anything is possible” and we’ll definitely be getting to see their twins.
No matter what happens, we’re so ready for it.
