Jumpstarting a career in international medicine at just 19 might seem tough, but Emma Albert-Stone, a rising sophomore at the College of William & Mary, is excited to make a difference. A neuroscience major with hopes to practice medicine overseas after graduation, she traveled to Bangladesh last summer with a group from her school to do sociological research.
During the group’s two-week visit, they visited four different rural communities and met with a local university and NGO to discuss their findings. Once Emma gets back to school in the fall, she’ll participate in weekly meetings on campus and return to Bangladesh in January.
“This winter, my college group will return to Bangladesh with a larger group of volunteers to revisit the four communities,” she said of her upcoming trip. “We hope to do more research with the goal of implementing a range of projects within the communities to help with their lack of drinking water and destroyed crop land.”
Though not everyone can travel the globe to help change the world, you can still make a difference! And you can do it right now with just one click.
