The romance queen is back — at least, that’s what fans are theorizing. ICYMI, the internet woke up on Sept. 21 to a photo of a marquee sign reading, “Modern Classic by Emily Henry” alongside the date April 6, 2027. And, naturally, the fans began sharing their theories about a new Emily Henry release. (And who can blame them?)
The marquee sign belonged to the Coolidge Corner Theatre in Brookline, Massachusetts, which frequently hosts author talks, book-to-film discussions, and literary release events in partnership with the nearby independent bookstore, Brookline Booksmith. So, naturally, this led the internet to believe that Henry is publishing a new book in April 2027, and it’s name? Fans think that Modern Classic will be the next big book in the romance aisle.
But that’s not where the theories stop. Shortly after the sign went viral, Henry herself posted a zoomed-in photo of a “Now Showing” sign alongside a list of cities: Santa Barbara, CA; Boston, MA; Brooklyn, NY; Ann Arbor, MI; Cincinnati, OH (where Henry’s from); and Boulder, CO.Â
While Henry hasn’t confirmed the title of her new book, she did say in a June 2026 interview with The TODAY Show that her new book is set to release in 2027, and the focus is more of a “true” romance. Henry also mentioned she is drawing inspo from the classic seasonal movie The Holiday. So, the whole movie theme is making more and more sense.
But that’s not where it stops. Many fans on Reddit are also heavily theorizing that Modern Classic could be centered around a cinematic love story, because Henry has been posting stills from classic movies on her Instagram stories. And, with Henry seemingly using theater marquees to tease the release, it makes sense.
The biggest piece of evidence that Henry is releasing a new book, though? Penguin Random House — which owns Henry’s publisher, Berkley Books — has Modern Classic by Emily Henry slated to release on April 4, 2027 on their website. However, while the book is available to pre-order from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Hudson Booksellers, Target, and more, it’s displayed on the external websites as “Untitled #7.” So, whether or not Modern Classic is the official title, at least we know Henry is officially coming out with her seventh novel. A win!
