Drew Barrymore Reflects On The Time She Met Princess Diana & It’s Just So Pure

With two British royal weddings in recent memory, meeting a real princess is totally possible (if you’re famous or can manage the best luck, of course). While actress Drew Barrymore is a literal princess herself, she had the once-in-a-lifetime chance to meet *the* Princess Diana as a little girl after starring in 1982 blockbuster hit E.T.

Barrymore recently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and spoke about the meeting when Kimmel brought out a photo of her giving Princess Diana an E.T. plush doll with Steven Spielberg in the background. All three of them have the biggest smiles on their faces. “I remember it like it was yesterday,” Barrymore said about meeting the late Princess of Wales. “It was the most exciting moment for me to meet a real-life princess—the real-life princess, the people’s princess.”

The Santa Clarita Diet actress also confirmed the importance of the people’s princess: “Diana was and is and will always be the epitome of a woman that all little girls look up to. She was so kind and so nice.”

And while we may no longer have Princess Diana with us, we are lucky to have both Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle as role models—and Princess Diana’s legacy will no doubt continue through these two strong women.
