Hugh Laurie is the new face of L’Oreal Paris. Yes, believe it.

You wouldn’t expect the roughly-shaven and sharp-witted doctor from the medical drama House to fall in the line with other L’Oreal brand celebrities like Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, and Gwen Stefani. And as it turns out, neither does Laurie himself, which is why he didn’t take himself too seriously in his new commercial.

“My name is Gerard Butler,” he jokes, lounging in a chair getting his nails manicured. “This is how I look before I’ve applied L’Oreal’s skin care for men.”

As the newest face of L’Oréal’s Men Expert line of cosmetics, he will appear in international ads for the brand, joining the likes of Gerard Butler and Patrick Dempsey.

L’Oreal Paris’ global brand president, Cyril Chapuy, heralded Laurie as “the perfect example of a modern man: genuine, uninhibited, strong and willing to pursue his passions to the end.”

When Laurie was asked by the Belfast Telegraph about his new model status, he replied, “At first I thought it was a mistake but then I realized that L’Oreal wasn’t looking for models, but real people with strong personalities, who are worth it… and who aren’t afraid to proclaim that using cosmetics can be a very masculine decision after all.”

You can watch the commercial here and get a good laugh out of it. Plus, as an added bonus, you can ooh and ahh over his seldom heard British accent.
