Down Vests for Spring

Now that Spring is right around the corner, it’s time to put away your peacoats and parkas and bring out some lighter outerwear.  Down vest are a great, stylish way to stay warm in the upcoming weather– especially on those days when the sun is out, yet there is still a slight chill or breeze.  Coming in a variety of colors and styles, there is one for everyone!

Ways to wear it:

1. This preppy look is an easy way to layer without acquiring too much bulk.  The multiple layers (oxford, sweater or sweashirt, vest) allow you to have fun pairing items of varying colors and prints together.  The vest is a simple technique to add a splash of color to the outfit.  If it’s not too cold out, feel free to forgo the middle layer and wear the vest over just a button-down.

2. Wearing a scarf with a vest provides both additional warmth and style.  Try matching the vest with other accessories, such as necklaces or headbands, as well.

3.  If you’re in the mood to dress extremely comfy one day, a down vest can dress up your outfit while still remaining relaxed.

4. Wearing a vest over patterns, such as plaid or stripes, is a very common look.   Though beware, sometimes wearing a vest over a printed sweater or shirt can make you look a little larger than you might like.

5. A patterned vest itself can be the centerpiece of your outfit.

6. A vest is a great way to give the turtleneck a more youthful look.  Since many find turtlenecks to be an old-fashioned article of clothing, adding a vest to your outfit is a great way to stay extra warm and still look chic.

You can purchase a down vest (also known as a puffer vest) at a variety of clothing stores, such as J. Crew or Old Navy.  Well-known brands, including Patagonia and The North Face, are available at multiple retailers.
