Doja Cat Took A… Unique Approach To The Met Gala’s Karl Lagerfeld Theme

If someone was going to pop off at the Met Gala, it was going to be Doja Cat. On the red carpet of the 2023 Met Gala on May 1, Doja Cat won with her cat look inspired by none other than the late Karl Lagerfeld’s cat, Choupette. What a way to kick off her first Met Ball! The rapper wore a sparkly silver dress with a white feathered train, topped with sparkly cat ears on her hood. Doja Cat was dressed by Oscar de la Renta. Her accessories included a diamond headpiece complemented by a diamond arm cuff and silver bracelet.

Doja Cat went even further by wearing facial prosthetics to emulate a feline look. Her makeup also went along with the cat theme, with a bold black cat eyeliner.

Doja Cat spoke to Vogue livestream host La La Anthony on the carpet, and said she really wasn’t nervous about being at the Met Gala for the first time. “It’s really not bad,” she said. “She said “Maybe it’s the beige [carpet]? I feel very calm.” She stayed in character and sprinkled in some meows in her interview with Anthony.

Before stepping on the red carpet, Doja Cat was seen entering her New York City hotel sporting a black and white cat beanie. Was this a little hint to tease her Met Ball look? She doesn’t do anything halfway, so it probably was. Regardless, one thing’s for sure — Doja doesn’t miss.

Doja Cat gave fans a hint that she’d be attending her first Met Gala on Instagram earlier on May 1. She posted a photo of a mannequin on Instagram, with the words “Doja Cat” written on it. She captioned it simply with a white heart. Here’s hoping this is the first of many times we see Doja on the Met steps.
