Did Kanye West Really Sell $1 Million Worth of Clothing in Two Days?

Are you a Yeezus fan? If so, you’ve probably heard about his Life of Pablo-inspired clothing line, which he was selling at a pop-up shop in New York City last weekend. Despite the constant critcism he’s received from the fashion industry, Kanye’s products continue to be majorly sucessful.

According to Kanye, that is.

Earlier this week, West tweeted that he sold $1 million worth of clothing in the two days following his pop-up shop’s opening. Whether that’s actually true is anybody’s guess. Retail analyst Sucharita Mulpuru told Billboard that it’s an unlikely sum. Large retailers like Macy’s in Herald Square make about $1 million in sales a day—but the location holds 2 million square feet of space for merchandise. “I’m not even sure how [West] would be processing that much inventory that quickly in a small format store — it couldn’t even fit $500,000 worth of merchandise unless every item was the size of a lipstick tube,” Mulpuru explained. And with product ranging from $35 to $400… well, Kanye would have had to sell a lot.

So just how did Kanye conquer the fashion industry? In a 2013 interview with Jimmy Kimmel, West revealed that he moved to Rome to intern at Fendi for four months and was mentored by Giuseppe Zanotti for several years.

Looks like Kanye has brought a whole new meaning to the phrase, “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.”

Will you be buying Kanye’s clothing any time soon?
