Democrats Are Set To File New Articles Of Impeachment Against Trump & They Want To Do It By Thanksgiving

A growing number of Democrats reportedly plan to file articles of impeachment against President Donald J. Trump before Thanksgiving, Representative Luis Gutierrez told The Hill on Tuesday. Gutierrez is a democratic representative from Illinois whose district includes heavily Hispanic parts of Chicago. And, of course, articles of impeachments are lists of charges brought against a president to begin the lengthy impeachment process.

“It is clear to us that he is unfit to be president of the United States of America,” Gutierrez also told The Hill. He did not provide The Hill with specific details about what the articles of impeachment will include, but he did say that they have plenty of reasons to address. Guitierrez has long been a critic of Trump, as The Chicago Sun Times notes, and has consistently criticized the President’s tendency to act like a bully.

The specific democrats planning to file the articles of impeachment with Rep. Gutierrez are also unknown. However, It was leaked to The Tennessean that Democratic Representative Steve Cohen of Tennessee is a part of the initiative.

According to The Tennessean, Rep. Cohen previously announced plans to file articles of impeachment against Trump over his comments blaming “both sides” after the white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia. He also told The Tennessean that Trump’s foreign business dealing and firings of former FBI director James Comey could serve as proof of other wrongdoings by the president. These previous comments shed some more light onto who and what may be involved in filing the articles of impeachment.

Many democrats want to wait until the Russian investigations are fully concluded before moving forward in filing any articles of impeachment, including Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, a democrat from California, according to The Hill. They believe that the outcome of the investigation may provide further grounds for impeachment and would better solidify their case.

However, Gutierrez believes that there is no time to wait. He wants more democrats to work together towards substantial articles of impeachment. “I appreciate what single members have done,” Gutierrez told the Hill, but emphasized the importance of taking on impeachment as a group.

It should be an interesting next couple of months as political tensions in Washington, D.C. and across the country continue to grow — particularly if talk of impeachment kicks up before the holidays.
