One of the many reasons to love Demi Lovato is her openness about her mental health journey and her journey to sobriety. The “Confident” singer celebrated six years of sobriety on March 16, and became emotional when fellow performers DJ Khaled and Kehlani helped her celebrate her “sober birthday” at a concert.
People reports that after Demi shared a message with concert-goers, DJ Khaled said, “What you’ve overcome through trials and tribulations, through dark clouds, you’ve found the sunshine and now the sun shines on you forever.” He then led the crowd in singing “Happy Birthday” to celebrate Demi’s anniversary. Demi’s accomplishment have not come without hard work. She told ET late last year that part of her self-care routine includes “working out regularly, visits [to] a therapist twice a week, and stay[ing] in touch with the people who keep her accountable.”
Even better, the superstar’s commitment to her healthy lifestyle has even benefited those around her, including her mother.
Demi’s mom, Dianna De La Garza, who has faced her own struggles, including an eating disorder, recently opened up about them in a new book. She says this honesty can be attributed to Demi, noting that she is the one “who gave her the strength to talk about her own struggles.”
Demi Lovato is an incredible woman who is inspiring those around her and changing the world in major ways. I personally can’t wait to see everything else she accomplishes.
