Cars, Babies, and David Beckham: HC’s Five Favorite Super Bowl Commercials for 2012

Last night was the Super Bowl and what’s better than a night of beer, junk food, good friends, and football? The commercials, duh!

There were the usual fan favorites like Doritos, Chrysler, and Coca-Cola, along with some unexpected celebrity cameo appearances by Matthew Broderick (“Bueller…?”), Jerry Seinfeld (with everyone’s favorite “Soup Nazi”), and Victoria’s Secret Angel Adriana Lima. According to Yahoo, Super Bowl advertisements run for $3.5 million for a 30 second spot so companies who are lucky enough to get the gig have to make every second count.

Here are just a few of the best of Super Bowl XLVI’s ads, both the LOL-worthy and the heartfelt.

5. “Mr. Quiggly” for Sketchers.

Cute pug in sneakers? Yes, please!

4. “Vocal Kombat” for The Voice

The hit singing comtest is back for another season and the ninja-inspired commercial starred coaches Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, and …Bettie White? That line where she says, “It’s about time somebody wanted me for my voice and not my body”? gets me every time.

3. “It’s Halftime in America” starring Clint Eastwood for Chrysler

This rings true as a strong message especially for us senior collegiettes™ looking out on post-grad life and a recovering economy. Don’t you wish Clint Eastwood was running for president?

2. “The Dog Strikes Back” for Volkswagen

For the second year in a row, Volkswagen aired one of the ads of the Super Bowl. This year’s spot featured an overweight dog that can’t fit through the doggy door to chase down its favorite car, the VW Bug. What really brings it up a notch is the call back to last year’s hit ad from VW featuring the Darth Vader kid.

1. “Bodywear” starring David Beckham for H&M

Can they just show this H&M commercial with David Beckham over and over? Thanks.

What was your favorite from last night, collegiettes™?
