If there’s one thing Beyoncé fans know how to do, it is to decode a clue. And right now, the internet is convinced that Beyoncé is about to enter her rock era. As speculation about “Act III” of Beyoncé’s speculated three-act project intensifies, fans believe the superstar may be preparing to reveal her next album, possibly during her return to the Met Gala. Social media detectives are pointing to a few very specific clues that sent X (formerly Twitter) into full conspiracy mode.
The biggest hint? A video quietly posted to Beyoncé’s website features Stevie Nicks performing with Destiny’s Child back in 2021. For longtime fans, this felt anything but random: Nicks, the legendary voice of Fleetwood Mac and a defining figure in rock music, appearing in a Beyoncé-related post, has many believing Act III could lean heavily into rock influences.
Considering Beyoncé’s recent pattern of genre reinvention, the theory isn’t far-fetched: After all, Renaissance (Act I) explored house and dance music while Cowboy Carter (Act II) dove into country and Americana. Additionally, Queen Bey has dabbled in rock music before, collaborating with Jack White of The White Stripes on her Lemonade album.
Fans think that Beyoncé will announce A Rock Album at the Met Gala.
Why the Met Gala? ICYMI, Beyoncé is returning to the Met Gala, which she hasn’t attended in several years, as a co-chair for the “Costume Art” theme. For an artist known for dramatic cultural moments and surprise drops, the fashion event would be a perfect place to spark a new era.
The internet is already treating the theory like it’s basically confirmed. (I don’t blame them.)
Beyoncé’s Team commented on the rumors.
Don’t get too excited yet, though. On April 27, Beyoncé’s publicist, Yvette Noel-Schure, commented on a fan account that had alleged in a post that the album would be announced during the week of the Met Gala and released in the summer. Noel-Schure commented on the post, “This is unequivocally false!!”
However, fans aren’t buying it.
I guess we’ll have to wait until the Met Gala on May 4 to find out for sure!
