Bebe Rexha Stands Up For Demi Lovato Against Critics Following 21 Savage Tweet Backlash

It has been a wild 24-hours in the music world and it’s getting wilder.

This past Sunday morning, rapper 21 Savage, born Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, was arrested by ICE for reportedly overstaying his visa.

Originally from the island of Dominica, a British colony, he came to the United States in 2005 at the age of 12 and did not leave when his visa expired a year later. He currently faces deportation but he promises that he will fight to stay in the US.

That night, during the Super Bowl, Demi Lovato tweeted that “So far 21 savage memes have been my favorite part of the Super Bowl.” The 26-year-old singer immediately received backlash for the tweets from celebrities and fans alike. Several tweets that were sent to her made comments about her overdose.

She ultimately deleted her Twitter in response to the criticism.

Now, Bebe Rexha has come to Demi’s defense. On Monday, the 29-year-old singer tweeted:

She also challenged the critics tweeting, “Wanna talk shit tweet me. Motherfuckers.”

Demi has also taken to Instagram to apologize for the tweets and to explain herself to the critics, writing, “Wasn’t laughing at anyone getting deported. I know that’s not a joke…not have I EVER laughed at that. The meme I posted/was talking about was of him being writing with a feather pen. Sorry if I offended anyone.”

“But it’s no excuse to laugh at someone’s addiction let alone their OD,” Lovato added. “Lastly, I wasn’t making fun on anything having to do with deportation or even anything against him. I was laughing at who the fuck knew 21 was British? Literally no one. That’s it. It doesn’t go deeper than that. I’m sorry I upset people truly.”
