The Bachelorette 8: What happened during The Men Tell All?

For recaps of each week’s Bachelorette episode, visit the Pop Campus blog!

This week was the always-entertaining ‘Men Tell All’ episode!  Essentially, the week before the finale, ABC always brings back the contestants and hashes out the drama/unresolved feelings from the previous episodes (and gives us a sneak peak of the season conclusion!).

First Up:  A Sit-Down with Chris Harrison

Of course it isn’t just ‘The Men Tell All.’  Before all of the male catfights started to happen, Emily had the opportunity to throw her two cents in.  The first topic of discussion?  One of the season’s villains, Ryan.  The gist:

Emily: Ryan interrupted girl talk.  Which is like the golden rule of things you don’t do.

Chris Harrison: Oh nooo he didn’t!

Ok so that isn’t exactly what they said, but interrupting Emily and Chris’ discussion definitely would’ve been another incidence of interrupted girl talk.  Emily and Chris also talked about how Ryan repeatedly referred to her as a trophy wife.   Oh Emily, why did you keep him around so long?

And you can’t talk about villains without talking about Kalon.  The infamous ‘Ricki is baggage’ incident was a paramount part of their discussion and it was clear that there would be some confrontation once the guys were brought out.

And you can’t talk about intense moments without talking about how Doug kissed Emily in the middle of Emily breaking up with him.  Which, unsurprisingly, is still physically painful to watch.

Next, Emily and Chris showed some never-before-seen moments from throughout the season.  Here’s a rundown:

  • Emily spilled wine on her dress in the middle of her Greenbrier date.
  • Emily and Travis sang ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star’ to Travis’ egg.  Seriously, you can’t make this stuff up.
  • Travis had a hard time pronouncing Shakespeare.
  • Arie’s two younger brothers were spying on Emily and Arie as they made out in front of his house.  Awkward.
  • Chris is an awkward dancer despite Emily’s attempts to teach him.

How riveting.  Let’s get to the man drama already! The Men Tell All

Next, all of the guys were introduced.  Kalon got booed and Sean (by far) got the biggest cheers.  Then there was a montage of the most dramatic moments so far this season.  The best quote:  The man claws are definitely out.” –Kalon.  Some were able to laugh at themselves (Doug) and some clearly still had tense feelings (Kalon).  Which led to another classic quote from earlier in the season: “I have a rule.  If you have Louis Vuitton luggage, and you’re a dude, you’re a (expletive).”-John

The first order of business:  Chris was not over it.  He went after Doug and Ryan and drama ensued.  The guys said that Chris talked down to them and the fact that he was younger rubbed them the wrong way.

Then Kalon opened his mouth and became the next target.  Chris Harrison argued that Kalon’s entrance on a helicopter put a target on his back.  The guys came after him.  Stevie (the party MC/moonwalker) said that he knew Kalon was there for the wrong reasons from day one.  Charlie was frustrated that Kalon stayed longer than he did.  The only logical thing to do at this point?  Put Kalon in the hot seat.

In The Hot Seat: Kalon

The biggest question was asked right off the bat: Why did he come on the show when he was uncomfortable with Emily having a daughter?

Allegedly, Kalon didn’t know Emily had a daughter when he signed up.  When he found out that she did, he felt that it would be worse of him to back out then.  But, he “definitely didn’t want a stepchild.”

We also learned that Kalon didn’t think his famous “I’d like to hear you talk but I’d like you to let me finish” line wasn’t regrettable.  He did acknowledge that his “Ricki is baggage” line was offensive.  Turns out, Kalon is going to appear on The Bachelor Pad.

In The Hot Seat: Ryan

Ryan’s montage was just as difficult to watch now as it was throughout the season.  This guy is a straight up narcissist.  It was impossible to even count how many times he mentioned his “worldly gifts.”

Ryan’s very confident and truly believes in himself.  He said that he laughs at himself while watching it on the show but that he’s not arrogant because arrogance is a “false sense of confidence.”  The guys weren’t as impressed with Ryan as Ryan is with himself.  Chris Harrison also assured us that Ryan will not be the next bachelor.

So would Ryan change anything?  He said that he wouldn’t take back his comment about not loving on Emily as much if she was fat.  As far as the trophy wife comments?  Ryan says we just didn’t understand them: “I know what I’m looking for.  I’m looking for a prize.”

In The Hot Seat: Chris

Chris (not the host Chris Harrison) was clearly not over Emily as he watched a montage of their relationship.  He admitted that he came off angry because he fights for things he believes in.  Chris got teary and said that he didn’t hold back on saying things because he had lost friends in the past.  He is looking forward to falling in love with the right girl someday.

It was a short chat, but we found out that Chris would also be appearing on the upcoming season of The Bachelor Pad (joining Kalon and Tony).

In The Hot Seat: Sean

Poor Sean was clearly the crowd favorite.  Chris Harrison acknowledged the question on the audience’s mind: Why didn’t he make it to the final two?

Sean said that watching his montage was tough to watch and that it was hard to see Emily so emotional about saying goodbye to him (because his feelings for her haven’t faded).  He said that the hardest feeling from it all was feeling inadequate in comparison to Arie or Jef.  In the end though, this was his first ‘heartbreak’ and his mom helped him realize that it would be healthy for him in the long run. In The Hot Seat: Emily

In regards to Sean- “I want you to know that I watched the episode.  I sat in my room and did the ugly cry.  Everything that I felt for you was so genuine and true for me.”

Sean said that he wanted to thank her for opening his eyes and making him hopeful for the future.

In regards to Chris- Chris also thanked her for opening his eyes to falling in love.

In regards to Doug-   Emily said that he wasn’t good at reading girls and that she wasn’t good at dealing with awkward moments.  But, they didn’t have any hard feelings and she thanked Doug for standing up for her during the Kalon debacle.

In regards to Kalon-   I let someone like that fall through the cracks.”  Kalon then apologized and Emily didn’t accept.  She said that he should be a politician because he was lying.  Apparently a few days ago Kalon had posted a picture at the airport saying, ‘Picture of the baggage claim? I’m surprised I don’t see Emily Maynard here.’  Needless to say, they didn’t end things on good terms.

In regards to Ryan- What is it about Ryan? “Ryan is obviously very good looking and he was that guy…every girl has one.  He’s a sweet talker.”  Ryan said that he had a lot of fun with her and that he wished her the best.

Then, there was a blooper rundown and where we learned that both Doug and Alessandro got naked for the camera, wind ruined a lot of interview shots, and Emily is into guys that are kind of “homeless looking.”

Next Week

It’s down to Arie and Jef.  Her relationship with Arie is passionate and intense. Her relationship with Jef is sweet and loving.  Who will she choose?  Will there be a proposal in the end?  We’ll have to wait and see this Sunday night!
