Here’s Which ‘Avatar: the Last Airbender’ Character You Are, Based on Your Zodiac Sign

Avatar: The Last Airbender is back and better than ever, enjoying a renaissance as both the show and its spinoff series were brought to Netflix just this year. It’s a wonderful show for all ages and walks of life, a tale of redemption, destiny, forgiveness and, above all, balance. As an OG fan myself, it’s been super exciting to see all of the fresh interest and content being made.

Something newer that I’ve been coming across as of late is a ton of fun online discussion over which characters belong to which zodiac signs. Due to the compelling and well-written characters (and the complicated matter of moon and ascendant signs that we won’t be getting into today), there’s never a 110% match, although some of the characters come pretty close. So, without further ado, here’s the ATLA character you are, based on your zodiac sign:

Aries (March 21st — April 19th): Toph

Competitive, direct, brave and independent. This earthbending champion embodies all of these traits. Toph has proven time and time again that she has no issues with confrontation, and has no patience for liars (hello, lie vibration-detecting skills). She always knows what she wants, and prefers to deal with potential problems head-on, confident in her own abilities to do so.

She’s incredibly independent, ditching her family home and getting frustrated when she feels that someone else is trying to order her around (ahem, Katara). Toph is also a bit of a sore loser, but anyone who watches the show knows that she rarely ever loses — this Blind Bandit even pioneered a whole new subset of earthbending, becoming the first metalbender in history!

“I am the greatest earthbender in the world! Don’t you two dunderheads ever forget it!” (Season 2, Episode 19)

Taurus (April 20th — May 20th): Iroh

Dependable, tenacious and comfort-loving. The old firebending royal journeyed with Zuko in search of the Avatar, keeping his temperamental nephew grounded and providing steady emotional support in spite of all the hardships that they endured. Iroh was also shown to be a hard-working individual, doing much work to help end the war behind the scenes with the Order of the White Lotus.

However, in true Taurus spirit, Iroh has a strong affinity for the comfortable and sensual. He’s always reminding Zuko and others along the way to enjoy the little things in life, like a steaming cup of tea or the companionship of an interesting stranger.

“Life happens wherever you are, whether you make it or not.” (Season 2, Episode 14)

Gemini (May 21st — June 20th): Sokka

Amiable, dynamic, curious and clever. This Water Tribe warrior is naturally friendly, and considered to be the most amusing member of Team Avatar, his blunders and bad jokes providing much comic relief throughout the series. Due to his silliness and general affability, Sokka is often underestimated.

However as a Gemini, he sometimes shows an infinitely more serious and intelligent side of himself. Sokka masters the sword, displaying great maturity and respect for the art and his teacher. He is also shown to be a great strategist, orchestrating the entire Fire Nation invasion plan on the Day of Black Sun, as well as helping to develop important inventions like submarines and airships. Duality indeed.

“That’s right! I’m Sokka! It’s pronounced with an “okka.” Young ladies, I rock ya!” (Season 2, Episode 15)

Cancer (June 21st — July 22nd): Katara

Intuitive, nurturing, sensitive and devoted: a textbook Cancer. This waterbending master is highly attuned with the emotions and wellbeing of those around her, often being the first to lend a kind word or a helping hand where needed. Katara is very family-oriented and famous for her mothering tendencies, often taking responsibility for all the members of Team Avatar, whether they like it or not (ahem, Toph).

She is fiercely committed and protective over those she holds dear, never hesitating to risk herself in order to help them — that becomes clear early on in the first season when she hugs Aang while he’s in the Avatar state, talking him down from his anger in spite of the danger. Though Katara does have plenty of contrasting, moody moments, once you are in her life she is the person who can be counted on for endless support and care.

“The strength of your heart makes you who you are.” (Season 1, Episode 6)

Leo (July 23rd — August 22nd): Ty Lee

Outgoing, charismatic, hard-working and dramatic. This chi-blocking acrobat has no trouble meeting and talking to people, even speaking warmly to the deadly Azula. As seen during a trip to Ember Island with some of her friends, Ty Lee effortlessly attracts attention, sometimes to the envy of others, but she simply takes all of this attention in stride.

Ty Lee is also hard-working, having trained to learn chi-blocking and worked in a circus — the latter of which she dramatically revealed as an attempt to distinguish herself from her six identical sisters. She’s definitely a Leo.

“These boys won’t leave me alone. I think they all just like me too much!” (Season 3, Episode 5)

Virgo (August 23rd — September 22nd): Mai

Practical, reserved, logical and loyal. This knife-wielding master takes a sensible approach to life. Even when Azula gave her direct orders, Mai would often disobey once she no longer felt it was reasonable. In the second season, she point blank refused to jump into dirty sludge in order to stop the Fire Nation drill from being damaged by Team Avatar.

Mai is not known for her expressiveness, in fact she’s naturally restrained. She’s uncomfortable with opening up and sharing her emotions with others, though does not mind being critical about others’. Still, Mai has also proven to be loyal to those she truly loves. She eventually chooses to save Zuko over helping Azula, even though he had broken her heart and she knew that Azula would seek revenge.

“Oh, well I’m sorry I can’t be as high-strung and crazy as the rest of you!” (Season 3, Episode 5)

Libra (September 23rd — October 22nd): Aang

Approachable, peaceful, gentle and charming. The Avatar’s job is to maintain and restore balance, a concept that is very important to Libras. As an Air Nomad, Aang strives to do this in the most peaceful ways possible, preferring to avoid violence and confrontation whenever he can. While admirable, this mentality sometimes leads him to indecisiveness and a tendency to avoid responsibility, like his continuous dilemma over killing Fire Lord Ozai.

However, in general Aang is a pleasant, sociable person, getting along with most everyone that he comes across due to his open and gracious nature. He enjoys friendships and being around other people. It’s hard not to like the kid!

“Anyone’s capable of great good and great evil. Everyone, even the Fire Lord and the Fire Nation, have to be treated like they’re worth giving a chance. (Season 3, Episode 6)

Scorpio (October 23rd — November 21st): Azula

Resourceful, persistent, assertive and ambitious. The Fire Nation princess is an intense force to be reckoned with and certainly not someone to take lightly. Azula is shrewd and driven with her goals, overcoming difficulties with an ease that shocks others — like at the Western Air Temple when she was free falling through the air. It seemed like Azula was going to hit the ground, but her quick thinking and physical prowess saved her from certain death.

Never one to back down, Azula knows what she wants and will do whatever it takes to get it, whether that be coercing Mai and Ty Lee into joining her mission or taking control of the entire Earth Kingdom. Though her paranoia and mistrustful nature do get the best of her, Azula is definitely someone that you wouldn’t want to cross.

“Don’t flatter yourself. You were never even a player.” (Season 2, Episode 20)

Sagittarius (November 22nd — December 21st): Suki

Easy-going, compassionate, independent and adventurous. The leader of the Kyoshi Warriors is a good-humored gal, nice to most everyone and really hard not to like. I’m thinking about her diving into water fully clothed in order to save Toph from drowning. Even when the younger girl had kissed her, mistaking Suki for Sokka, she never made Toph feel badly about it.

Still, Suki is also a powerful warrior, the kind of girl who is confident and capable of taking care of herself. She doesn’t blink at the chance to travel the world, whether that be solo or with Team Avatar, she takes easily to new challenges and adventures. And let’s be real, Suki totally wears the proverbial pants in her relationship with Sokka!

“I am a warrior, but I’m a girl too.” (Season 1, Episode 4

Capricorn (December 22nd — January 19th): Zuko

Driven, disciplined, realistic and sensitive. The prince of the Fire Nation is incredibly diligent, having doggedly pursued his initial goal of capturing the Avatar for so long. Zuko was also sometimes quite strict with himself and with others, as seen by his dedication to mastering firebending and teaching Aang in spite of a rocky start. Though he joined Team Avatar late, he was one of the most practical members, keeping others focused on their ultimate goals within the bigger picture.

It’s important to note that Zuko is rough around the edges, but he is actually a bit of a softie who struggles with talking about his feelings. He comes a long way from feeling the need to do everything on his own, to learning that there is nothing wrong with having the support of loved ones. Still, when it comes to teasing, he can be a poor sport.

“I’ve always had to struggle and fight, and that’s made me strong. (Season 1, Episode 20)

Aquarius (January 20th — February 18th): Jet

Original, independent, idealistic and analytical. Say what you will about the ex-leader of the Freedom Fighters, but he is one who stands out from the crowd. Jet is exceedingly individualistic, having had to take care of himself and others from a young age.

It’s clear that Jet is an idealistic leader, but to a fault. He wants to take power back from the tyranny of the Fire Nation and give back to his own people, but he goes to extensive and sometimes harmful lengths to accomplish this goal. Jet is not above using his analytical and persuasive skills to manipulate others into helping him. He holds onto his own ideals and opinions very tightly, not easily swayed by others even when they try to reason with him — though he does come around in the end.

“One day, we’ll drive the Fire Nation out of here for good and free that town. (Season 1, Episode 10)

Pisces (February 19th — March 20th): Yue

Mystical, gentle, selfless and kind. The princess of the Northern Water Tribe was born with a strong tie to the spiritual world, having been born in the Northern Water Tribe and saved by the Moon Spirit as an infant.

Yue is a mild girl, but with an unwavering sense of duty and loyalty to her tribe, even to the detriment of her own feelings. Arranged marriage aside, at the end of the first season, she chose to sacrifice herself in order to revive the dead Moon Spirit, restore balance and save the world from a greater terror. Even as the Moon Spirit, Yue continues to support the people who need it most, being the one to comfort Aang and offer him hope when he was despairing over connecting with his past lives. Though Sokka said it best: the moon spirit is a gentle, loving lady!

“It gave me life, maybe I can give it back.” (Season 1, Episode 20)
