Getting To The Bottom Of The “Astros Mean Girl Drama” On TikTok

I never thought I’d find myself on DramaTok, but here we are — and the girls are fighting.

If you’ve been searching “mean girls baseball game” or “Astros game mean girls” nonstop, you’re not alone. It’s been a minute since the last viral drama situation. And in true TikTok fashion, users have quickly taken sides on this one involving influencer Jackie La Bonita and the girls sitting behind her at a baseball game. The power of the internet will never cease to amaze me. TikTok users have gotten so involved with drama in the past that they’ve flooded businesses with one-star reviews and ended celebrities’ careers overnight. But this baseball game situation literally needs to be in a history book on cancel culture one day.

Wait, so what even happened?

It all started when influencer Jackie La Bonita (@jackielabonita) posted a video on April 22 from the Houston Astros baseball game. In the video, it shows her getting made fun of by a few girls sitting behind her when she was trying to take Instagram photos. The girls can be seen making faces, laughing, and using hand gestures.

The viral video has amassed over 43 million views, and viewers have offered their support to La Bonita. As of now, the comments on the video are turned off. But that didn’t stop users from taking action against the “Astros mean girls” and giving their thoughts on the situation through TikTok stitches.

Users even joined together and doxxed the girls: They went as far as finding the real estate company that one of the girls was thought to work at, flooding the company with one-star reviews. One of the girls’ boyfriends even posted a TikTok calling out users for bullying the girls and attacking him and his family.

The girls have broken their silence.

The two girls took to TikTok and posted two now-deleted videos detailing their side of the story from a new account (@lizandalondra419). They said that they were not comfortable being recorded in the background of La Bonita’s video and that they were not bullying her.

In their TikTok explaining the situation, user @nomoredanny included clips of the girls’ deleted video in which they said, “You [Jackie La Bonita] took the time out of your life to edit a video and make it look like we were bullying you when that was not the case at all.” Her Campus reached out to the account for comment, but did not hear back at the time of publication.

Cardi B’s gotten involved too.

Twitter has also gotten involved in the drama, including Cardi B herself. The rapper has officially taken Jackie La Bonita’s side on the situation. In a tweet from April 22, Cardi B replied to the viral TikTok video and wrote, “I would of put that ring to use,” referencing the large ring that La Bonita was wearing at the game.

The dust hasn’t settled on the situation. TikTok drama is always developing, and there’s still a lot we don’t know. As usual, users’ opinions are polarized. Many users think that the girls needed to be called out for their behavior, while others talk about the dangers of doxxing the girls and the effects of cancel culture.
