Arinators, rise, our time has finally come. On Jan. 7, Ariana Grande announced that she will be releasing her first single in three years, called “Yes, And?” I don’t know about you, but I am ready for some new AG music.
Grande has been on a hiatus from her music career for quite some time now. Though she’s done some collabs over the years with artists like Kelly Clarkson and The Weeknd, she hasn’t released a single in three years, so this is a big deal for AG fans. Of course, Grande is also starring as Glinda in the live-action adaption of Wicked, which is expected to be released in theaters on Nov. 27, according to IMDb.
While a single from AG is good news, it doesn’t stop there: Grande’s photographer, Katia Temkin confirmed that this song’s cover is 1 of AG7’s album covers. So yes, Grande is giving us a whole album, not just a single. And fans are losing it.
Temkin has worked with Grande several times before AG7. Some memorable moments include the R.E.M. beauty launch and Grande’s ten-year anniversary of Yours Truly, which was the photographer’s directorial debut. Temkin has also worked with Reneé Rapp, Hailee Steinfeld, and Normani. She’s a total girl-boss.
Grande’s most recent album, Positions, released on Oct. 30, 2020, easily became a fan favorite and it’s no surprise why. The songs are bops—the collabs with artists like Ty Dolla $ign and Doja Cat were immediately added to my playlists and I still listen to them to this day. Positions was also nominated for two Grammys: Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Pop Vocal Album. And of course, I can’t fail to mention one of my favorite AG songs off that album, “34+35.” IYKYK.
While Grande has been on a bit of a music hiatus, it’s clear she’s been putting in the work in the studio. As a former musical theater kid, a movie adaptation of Wicked is everything and more, especially when Grande is playing Glinda. That role is perfect for her, and I can’t wait to see her play Glinda on the big screen. Of course, Grande has also been working on AG7, and while we don’t know when it will be released, we’re at least getting a single in a few days.
Fans everywhere are losing it over this announcement of a new Grande single and confirmation of AG7. Here are some of our favorite fan reactions:
And of course, some thoughts about AG7 had to be included:
I’m claiming 2024 as the year of female pop music, and AG’s new music will not disappoint.
