Apply for Chegg For Good & ONE’s Internship in Africa!

Do you love making a positive change in people’s lives? Do you volunteer at the soup kitchen or pet shelter on the weekends? Are you the head of your sorority’s philanthropy projects? If this sounds like you, collegiettes, then you might be “the ONE.”

Chegg’s charitable organization, Chegg For Good, and a grassroots organization fighting poverty and disease, ONE, have teamed up to offer an amazing opportunity to eight lucky students: an expense-paid summer internship putting you on the philanthropic frontlines in Africa to raise awareness of extreme poverty, disease and how these issues limit students’ access to a quality education.

Heading the project is Chegg for Good’s Manager of Philanthropy & Executive Projects Heather Hatlo Porter, who says that this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

“Chegg and ONE came together over the shared belief that a student’s voice can be a powerful tool for change on their campus, in their communities, and across the globe,” Porter said. “When we looked at the best way to help promote and elevate that awareness to our great Chegg community, we felt strongly that bringing students to Africa – to witness firsthand what organizations like ONE are doing overseas – would be the most effective and transformative way to share with them what has been done and what work there still is to do.”

This internship program will give eight college students the opportunity to become fully immersed in the issues faced by millions living on less than $1.25 a day in sub-Saharan Africa and share that information back home. “During the trip to Africa, the students will be able to blog daily (either written or video) about what they are seeing, learning, experiencing, and that content will be shared across the Chegg and ONE communities and possibly through some of our partners,” Porter said. “Upon their return to the US there will also be additional opportunities to write for Chegg, ONE and potentially some other media partners about how the trip impacted them and how they are spreading the word on their own campus.”

So how do you enter? Tell Chegg in 500 words or less why you’re passionate about social change, and what you’re currently doing on your own campus to fight it—whether in Africa or right here in your own community. If you meet their criteria of being professional, motivational, familiar with global development and challenges on the ground in Africa, as well as being effective communicators, you’ll move to round two where the top 50 applicants will be entered into a public voting round. Here you’ll be able to rally support from your friends and family to vote for you. After voting ends, the top 20 finalists will then travel to Washington, D.C. to meet with members of Congress, the ONE team, like-minded students and social entrepreneurs for a few days, showing us what really sets you apart from the other applicants.
