On June 24, 2022, the Supreme Court voted to overturn Roe v. Wade in a 6-3 majority, with rights to abortion access being handed to state lawmakers — making supporting abortion funds even more essential in the fight for reproductive justice. Since that ruling, Gen Z has been at the forefront of the conversation about abortion rights. In a September 2022 survey conducted by Her Campus, 88% of Gen Z respondents did not support the overturning of Roe v. Wade, and following the court’s ruling, 27% donated to an abortion fund as a way to help the cause.

With abortion rights now being left to the states, supporting and donating to abortion funds is one of the most crucial ways in helping to ensure that abortion is safely accessible for everyone, no matter their age, ethnicity, cultural background, gender identity, or sexual orientation. Some abortion funds help pay for some or all of the costs of a person’s abortion, while others help provide funding, travel, lodging, and other forms of logistical support. Here are nine abortion funds to donate to right now to help in the fight for abortion rights, if you have the means to do so.

Keep Our Clinics

Keep Our Clinics is a campaign led by the Abortion Care Network that helps support independent clinics. According to the Abortion Care Network, independent providers serve three out of every five patients who have an abortion, yet they receive only a fraction of public support, causing many of their doors to close. Donations to Keep Our Clinics help keep dozens of independent clinics open, with donations going towards building repairs, staff salaries, PPE, replacing supplies and equipment, legal costs, and security improvements.

National Network of Abortion Funds

There are over 90 local and state abortion funds that are a part of the National Network of Abortion Funds. Through their website, you can easily find your own local abortion fund to donate to, or you can choose to split your donation equally among all of the abortion funds listed.

Access Reproduction Justice

Access Reproduction Justice is an abortion rights organization that works to help young and low-income folks obtain abortions in California. Donating helps provide financial and practical support to callers for their reproductive healthcare and aids in conducting community education and organizing for reproductive justice.

The Brigid Alliance

The Brigid Alliance is a referral-based service that provides people seeking abortions with travel, food, lodging, childcare, and other logistical support. Partnering with a network of abortion clinics, The Brigid Alliance helps people get the abortion care they need. The Brigid Alliance currently helps over 125 clients per month, and your donation would help serve the growing number of people whose right to reproductive healthcare is limited by restrictions and bans.

Indigenous Women Rising

Indigenous Women Rising is committed to providing equitable and culturally safe health options for Native and Indigenous folks through health education, resources, and advocacy. Indigenous Women Rising has an abortion fund that is open to all Indigenous people in the United States and Canada who may be seeking an abortion. Donating to this fund helps ensure that abortion is safe and accessible to Indigenous communities.

Mariposa Fund

Founded in 2016 by a group of abortion care providers in New Mexico, the Mariposa Fund helps fight against systemic barriers that exist for undocumented people to obtain reproductive health services, including abortions. Your donation helps pay for undocumented people to get the abortion services they may need.

The Afiya Center

Based in Texas and directed by Black women, The Afiya Center helps provide ongoing support and programs that work to protect access to all reproductive health services, including abortion, for young Black women. Given that Texas has banned abortions at all stages of pregnancy (unless you have a life-threatening medical emergency), donating to organizations like The Afiya Center is crucial in ensuring safe and accessible abortions.

ARC Southeast

Covering Southeast states including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Tennessee, ARC Southeast helps provide funding and logistical support for Southerners seeking abortion care and services. ARC Southeast aids in offering both financial assistance and practical support, including rides, lodging, and escorting. Donating to ARC Southeast helps fight against financial barriers that may prohibit Southerners from accessing the reproductive care they need and want.

Women’s Reproductive Rights Assistance Project (WRRAP)

Women’s Reproductive Rights Assistance Project (WRRAP) is the largest independent nonprofit abortion fund that helps bridge the financial gap for disadvantaged folks seeking an abortion or emergency contraceptives. According to WRRAP, donating helps ensure that financially-in-need individuals of all ages, ethnicities, cultural backgrounds, gender identities, and sexual orientations have access to abortion care and emergency contraceptives.
