If you’ve been keeping up with Season 5 of Love Is Blind, then you’re likely familiar with Aaliyah. The ICU travel nurse went on the show looking for love and quickly developed a relationship with Uche in the pods. Though the two were excited about each other and the idea of getting married, their relationship took an unexpected turn after Aaliyah left the experiment due to Uche’s past relationship with podmate Lydia. Though Aaliyah regretted leaving without saying goodbye and tried to rekindle their relationship in the real world, Uche wasn’t interested in getting back together and the two went their separate ways. Now, it appears Aaliyah has found love again, and she might be engaged — but not to someone from the show.
On Oct. 4, Aaliyah posted a video collage of her being all lovey-dovey with a new guy on her Instagram. “My King,” she captioned the post, adding the hashtag “#whatreallovelookslike.” Though the two look to be very much in love, it seems like this mystery guy and Aaliyah are more than just boyfriend and girlfriend. Included in the video collage was a photo of what appeared to be Aaliyah’s left hand with a diamond ring on *that* finger. Her Campus reached out to Aaliyah’s team for confirmation of a possible engagement, but didn’t hear back by the time of publication.
To me, it definitely looks like Aaliyah is engaged to the mystery man from the video, and TBH, I’m so happy for her. Don’t get me wrong, I was rooting for her and Uche to get engaged inside of the pods at first, but after he judged her for being unfaithful in a past relationship, things between them took a major turn.
It didn’t take long for Aaliyah to find out that Uche dated Lydia a few months before the show, which caused her to become unsure about their relationship. Though she tried to move past her reservations, Aaliyah struggled to do so and decided to leave the experiment without saying goodbye to Uche.
“I’m such a f*cking idiot. This is exactly what I thought was gonna happen. I was gonna let myself get close to the wrong person,” Uche said while on the phone with Aaliyah after she left the show. She then added, “Well, if that’s how you feel, then maybe we don’t need to keep talking.”
At the end of Episode 6 of Love Is Blind, Aaliyah and Uche met up at a restaurant to unpack their last conversation on the phone. Aaliyah expressed regret over leaving the pods without saying goodbye. She told Uche she still loved him and hadn’t felt a connection like the one they had with anyone else.
“My heart is still in your hands. There isn’t anybody else that I want,” Aaliyah confessed. “I want to be your better half… I would marry you. I would.”
Their conversation carried over to Episode 7, which began with Uche telling Aaliyah that her leaving the pods “broke” him. “I thought that we were on the same page the entire way through. I said ‘I love you.’ You said you loved me,” Uche said. “We were talking about how excited we were to spend the rest of our lives together. You didn’t communicate any kind of doubt to me.”
After an emotional conversation, Uche couldn’t get past Aaliyah doubting their relationship and decided to end things between them. “You didn’t have confidence in me and you didn’t have confidence in our relationship,” Uche said. “I think it’s over between us.”
So, maybe it’s a good thing Aaliyah and Uche didn’t end up together because if they did, who knows if she would have found this mystery guy (aka her king).
