The 7 Best Ways to Fundraise for Your Sorority

This is a sponsored feature. All opinions are 100% from Her Campus.

For all of you collegiettes involved in Greek life, it’s that time of year again –– it’s fall and your sorority is kicking back into gear full-force.  One of the most exciting parts of being in a sorority is getting the opportunity to fundraise (wait… what?). Yup, you read that right! Fundraising for a cause can be super enjoyable –– that is, if you know the right ways to do it! Keep reading below for seven totally awesome fundraisers that your chapter should definitely try this semester.

1. Micro Kickboard Greek fundraising program

Because no matter how old we get, who doesn’t like to scooter? Micro Kickboard is supporting Greek life by encouraging students to exercise, cruise across campus and enjoy themselves outdoors. From now through November 30, Micro Kickboard will be offering participating sororities and fraternities $20 for every scooter sold. Check out the Micro Kickboard website to sign up and support your chapter! This is definitely our top pick for Greek fundraising this year!

2. Bake sales

Believe us when we say this –– desserts will never go out of style! A great way to raise money for your sorority is to set up a bake sale, preferably on campus during a weekday. The hungry, sleepless and stressed college students will flock, and they will come in the dozens. To have even more fun, have a few members of your sorority meet up and bake in the days leading up to your bake sale! Charge a small fee for individually packaged items –– you will sell out and it will add up!

3. Dance-offs

Bring the entire Greek community on your campus together for a dance-off competition! Have each sorority and fraternity on campus have a team, and then charge admission for the final show! The winner of the dance-off wins and gets all of the money raised for their philanthropy! It’s sure to be a crowd-pleaser both for Greeks and non-Greeks alike!

4.  Late night food stand

This is one of our favorites, and definitely super fun! Mark a Friday night down on your calendar to hold a late night food stand and serve all your not-so-sober classmates the treat that they need (literally, they probably need it). We recommend preparing several trays of mac and cheese, hot dogs or grilled cheese sandwiches –– or all three! Decide on a price you deem most appropriate, post up on a popular street corner around 10:30 p.m., and watch your food sell out in record time.

5. Food eating contest

Another food-raiser? DUH –– food is obviously the best thing ever! This fundraiser may take a little more preparation, but it is worth all the time and effort. Find a location you can rent out, or even opt to use one of your members’ apartments! Decide on a date and a food for your competition –– wings, pies, pizza, hot dogs, etc.–– and begin promoting it around campus. Charge a sign-up fee and offer an awesome prize. Fraternity brothers and other organizations are sure to join in on the fun!

6. Car wash

We know, we know –– this one is obvious, but rightfully so! Car washes are easy to prepare for, generate a lot of buzz and receive substantial donations. We recommend holding one for your sorority on a Saturday or Sunday morning. Want to make yours even better? Play music, have fun and sell food for additional funds!

7. Holiday-themed event or booth

What is it about the holidays that put everyone in a generous mood? We aren’t really sure either, but, collegiettes, your sororities can use this to their advantage! Hold a fundraiser around a holiday and you’re sure to get a major turnout. Whether you hold a pumpkin painting event for Halloween, or send candy-grams for Valentine’s Day, a holiday-themed event will definitely generate buzz and help your sorority raise money!

Fundraisers are awesome! This semester, be sure to let your sorority stand out from the crowd by adding a unique twist to your event. Fundraisers take planning and hard work –– but, they can be super fun as well!
