I’ve just returned from what was a quintessentially southern thanksgiving break.
I began my break in Asheville, NC (my hometown!) where I went to a Great Gatsby/Roaring 20s party at my dad’s house. You can check out how I put together my costume here!
On Monday, I drove down to Atlanta, GA where I met up with my boyfriend Alex and his family. On Tuesday, we headed down to the Barnsley Gardens Resort in northern Georgia. The resort was amazing. We stayed in these gorgeous cabins with wood-burning fireplaces. I showed off my fire building skills and built a roaring fire for Alex’s parents. On Tuesday afternoon, I played caddy to Alex and his dad out on the golf course and even hit a few balls myself.
On Wednesday morning, we went horseback riding up through the mountains. On Wednesday afternoon, we had a shooting lesson and then went skeet shooting! For those of you uninformed on the intricacies of hunting, a skeet is not an animal but is rather a clay disk used for shooting practice. We went to three different skeet shooting stations. At the first station, the skeet were (was? skeets? confusing!) shot up into the air away from us in order to imitate the flight pattern of quail. I only shot one “quail” skeet. At the second station, the skeet were shot across the ground in front of us to imitate a rabbit. I shot 5 “rabbit” skeet – rabbit skeet beware! At the third station, the skeet were shot straight up into the air to imitate a certain type of duck that can take off from the water vertically. I shot 3 “duck” skeet.
The next day my arms were really sore – rifles are heavier than you think! If you’re curious, I shot a 28 gauge, a 20 gauge, and a .410. My shoulder was also sore from the kick-back from the rifle!
Here I am firing the rifle!
It was a really fun experience!
Did you have fun over thanksgiving break? Tell me about it!
