8 Podcasts You Should Be Listening To On Your Commute

In the past year I’ve become a podcast person, and it all started around the time I began working full-time. Each day I take the train to and from work, which takes a total of about 45 minutes door-to-door. Once I’m out the door, I have my AirPods in and find myself listening to either podcasts or music, depending on the day. I actually subscribe to enough podcasts that I have at least one new episode in my app each morning. To add something different to your commute, I’ve rounded up my favorites below.

Gals on the Go

Gals on the Go is a podcast hosted by two YouTubers/influencers, Danielle Carolan and Brooke Miccio. Listening to this podcast feels like you’re hanging out with your girlfriends and chatting about current events, entertainment, your favorite products, relationships, workouts, sharing tips and stories with each other and so much more. Brooke and Danielle have a strong friendship and a great dynamic to listen to.

Thick & Thin

Thick & Thin is hosted by influencer Katy Belotte, a 20-something living in New York City and trying to navigate “life, love and everything in between.” She takes the topics we are all wondering or worrying about and puts them into the most beautifully thought out episodes, comparing common musings that peril the lives of millennials to a variety of historical figures that inspire her. Katy is not afraid to tell it like it is and makes her audience feel heard, understood and less alone.

U Up?

Hosted by Jordana Abrams and Jared Freid of Betches Media, this podcast is all about modern dating, hookups, interpreting weird dating app and texting interactions, and navigating relationships. If you’ve ever wondered, “When is the right time to unfollow an old hookup?” “What’s the best way to decline a request for nudes?” or “How do I bring up weird Instagram activity without sounding crazy?” this is the podcast for you. Jared and Jordana bounce off of each other, sharing the male and female perspective of various dating scenarios. Often times they have differing opinions, which always keeps things interesting.

Girls Gotta Eat

Girls Gotta Eat is another dating podcast, hosted by Ashley Hess and Rayna Greenberg – two 20-somethings living in New York City who have no holds barred when it comes to what they will share. Addressing reader questions, playing games such as “Psycho or Power Move,” and making fun of their own sex lives are all things you can expect from Girls Gotta Eat, usually with a comedic twist.

The Anxious Achiever

Presented by Harvard Business Review, this podcast is less entertainment and more educational, as topics revolve around mental health in the workplace. The Anxious Achiever has covered anxiety, depression, comparing yourself to coworkers and coping with emotional strain or burnout. In the episodes, we hear stories and interviews from CEOs, C-Suite Executives, founders of startups and more, who are all sharing their stories about being an “anxious achiever.” This podcast is a little more intense but will teach you lessons you can bring into the office each day.

How I Built This with Guy Raz

How I Built This with Guy Raz is one of the most inspirational podcasts I have listened to. Guy Raz interviews the founders, CEOs and owners of some of today’s largest companies. These include Dry Bar, SoulCycle, AllBirds, Stitch Fix, Glossier, Instagram, Outdoor Voices, Five Guys, Yelp and so many more. I can assure you that if you look through the large array of episodes, you’ll find one from a company that you are interested in. Hearing the stories of how these individuals built a company from the ground up and grew it into what it is today is extremely motivating.

Even if you have never found yourself to be a podcast listener before, I highly recommend you try out at least one of these and see what you think. I find that once I get familiar with the host of a podcast, I look forward to their new episodes each week and am excited to listen on the way to work.
