As an avid country music lover I am ashamed to admit that until last week I had never been to a live country concert. Bluegrass, yes, country, no. So when I found two tickets + VIP access + VIP parking to a Jason Aldean concert on Rue La La for $95 I jumped at the opportunity.Â
The concert (part of Jason Aldean’s “My Kind of Party” tour) was held last week at the Comcast Center in Mansfield, MA. My boyfriend Alex also happens to be a country music fan so he was more than happy to accompany me on the excursion. We rented a bright blue hybrid Honda from Zipcar, grabbed a couple of drinks to have once we got to the concert, and hit the road.Â
Little did we know that there is a huge tailgating culture around country music here in MA. Our own little tailgate (on top of a bright blue hybrid no less) was completely put to shame by the big pickup trucks, charcoal grills, and coolers of beer. At first we were embarrassed by our pathetic excuse for a tailgate but then it just became funny.Â
Here’s our “tailgate”:

Making the best of our situation:
We LOVED the opening band, Eric Church. He was amazing.Â
During Jason Aldean’s virtual duet with Kelly Clarkson. Would it have been better for him just to have brought along a real person to sing a duet with instead of singing a duet with a video? Most def. But whatevs, I guess nobody can sing like Kelly.Â
Here we are before the sun started setting on our best country music fan attire:
Overall, it was definitely “My Kind of Party.”
