Monday night was one of our most amazing nights ever- Windsor, Annie and I were honored as part of Glamour magazine’s “20 Amazing Young Women” at the Glamour Women of the Year Awards!
We found out about this a few weeks ago but we weren’t allowed to tell anyone about it until the actual event!
We knew this was going to be a star-studded event so we needed to look fabulous- we got The Tannery in Harvard Square to outfit us in dresses for it, and Lauren Merkin to outfit us with bags for it! We were all completely obsessed with our dresses and bags.
We took the Bolt Bus down from Boston to NYC Monday morning, and then Glamour had a driver pick us up from where we were staying to drive us to the awards! We felt like real celebrities. We each got to bring a guest too- I brought my mom, Windsor brought her sister Kelsey, and Annie brought her friend Megan.
The Glamour Women of the Year Awards are a huge red carpet event- they were held at Carnegie Hall in NYC and TONS of celebrities were there. Our three guests got to sit front and center (!!!) at the awards, and we were seated in the first box closest to the stage on the left along with the other “Amazing Young Women” honorees. This was the 20th anniversary of the Glamour Women of the Year Awards, hence the 20 Amazing Young Women! We were in good company with our friend Tammy Tibbetts of She’s The First, and 14-year-old fashion blogger Tavi Gevinson, among other incredible young women!!
The awards opened with Glamour’s Publisher and Glamour’s Editor-in-Chief, Cindi Leive, speaking- she looked absolutely amazing in a gorgeous black and white one shoulder dress. As the night went on, our jaws literally kept dropping as more and more celebrities came out: Janet Jackson, Kate Hudson, Donnatella Versace, Oprah Winfrey, Julia Roberts, Fergie, Cher, Queen Rania, Arianna Huffington, Diane Sawyer, Katie Couric, Mia Hamm, Lisa Leslie, Lindsay Vonn, Kelly Osbourne, 4 female heads of state (President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia, President Dalia Grybauskaite of Lithuania, Prime Minister Iveta Radicova of Slovakia, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar of Trinidad and Tobago) , Dr. Hawa Abdi and her daughters from Somalia, Katie Spotz (the youngest person to row solo across the Atlantic)- the list went on and on… it was insane!! And we were SO close to them!
When it was time for our portion of the event, Chelsea Clinton came out to present us with the award! She said each of our names and what we had accomplished (Her Campus for us obviously) and we stood up in front of everyone and appeared on the huge screen above the stage!
It was such an unbelievable, inspiring, amazing, empowering night. We really could not believe it was all happening to us!
At the end of the awards we got fantastic goody bags filled with lots of stuff including tons of Loreal makeup (a sponsor of the awards), and the driver drove us home!
Some more highlights of the event:
- Julia Roberts telling everyone to never tuck your hair behind your ears because it looks bad (I am so guilty of this…)
- 4 female heads of state (Lithuania, Slovakia, Liberia, Trinidad and Tobago) being absolutely hilarious in their speeches
- Diane Sawyer wearing Louboutins

Thank you SO much to Glamour for selecting us for this amazing honor and for allowing us to be part of such an incredible night!!!
