HC recognized by the City of Cambridge!!

Today I checked the mail and found this amazing award given to Stephanie, Windsor, and me for our work on Her Campus and our recognition in Inc. Magazine’s 2010 30 Under 30 Young Entrepreneurs.  Hilariously, the award was conferred upon us by the City of Cambridge, Massachusetts, where our office is located, and where we first filed our “Doing Business As” form!

The contents of the award made us even more giddy — turns out, the award/certificate is really a resolution that was actually passed in a Cambridge City Council meeting!

Like, the nine members of the Council got together and passed a resolution to honor us with this award.  Simply fantastic!

Here I am holding the resolution that was awarded to me — the City gave each of us a copy!

Some choice portions of the text of the resolution, for your enjoyment:

“WHEREAS: The City of Cambridge has long been a hub of innovation, ideas and most importantly action; and

WHEREAS: The Cambridge City Council has a long history of celebrating the accomplishment of its young residents; and

WHEREAS: It has come to the attention of the Cambridge City Council that the founders of HerCampus.com, a Cambridge-based online magazine that was launched by former Harvard students last September, have been named some of America’s Coolest Young Entrepreneurs under 30-years-old by Inc. magazine; and

WHEREAS: [they launch into a summary of how we met through working on Harvard’s own lifestyle and fashion online magazine, Freeze] … As it turned out, Freeze’s online presence boosted readership so significantly, that college women from other schools began discovering the content; and

WHEREAS: These three women innovatively decided to create an online magazine that would serve college women nationwide…; and

WHEREAS: HerCampus.com is a one stop shop for college women wanting to know everything from what’s in fashion to how they can apply for internships to what restaurants they should try out; and

WHEREAS: The Cambridge City Council is very proud of Stephanie, Windsor and Annie for their innovative work; now therefore be it

RESOLVED: That the Cambridge City Council go on record congratulating Stephanie Kaplan, Windsor Hanger, and Annie Wang for their excellent and very successful work; and be it further

RESOLVED: That the City Clerk be and hereby is requested to forward a suitably engrossed copy of the resolution to the before mentioned women on behalf of the entire City Council.”

Isn’t this great?? :)  We are so honored and tickled by this award — a big thank you to the City of Cambridge!  We love you and love working in this city!!
