Monday night, Windsor and I gave a guest lecture to a grad school business school class on Entrepreneurial Strategy at Boston University School of Management!
Annie was supposed to speak too but had to do some urgent work for an exciting new client we’re working with!
Windsor and I told the story of Her Campus from idea conception (back when we were sophomores at Harvard working on a student publication), through entering the Harvard business plan competition, through launch, and through our first year until now. We explained how important it is for entrepreneurs to have a plan (even if that plan ends up changing), to ask for advice from mentors and advisors who you meet in your industry, and to be constantly researching the field you’re in and teaching yourself new skills, especially if (like us) you lack actual job experience!
The class asked a bunch of interesting questions and the lecture was a lot of fun! Each student in the class works on his or her own business plan throughout the semester. At the end of the class, the professor gave us each a BU umbrella (which will definitely come in handy given Cambridge weather- see these pics from last week en route to a photoshoot…)!
But the most unexpected part of the class was that the fire alarm went off in the middle and we had to evacuate! The fire department showed up with a fire truck and firefighers, but luckily we were soon able to go back into the building! We then resumed our lecture :)
Thanks so much to BU School of Management for having us as speakers!
Here we are with the class.
