Happy almost Friday, readers!
It may still be August, but that doesn’t mean us college kids don’t get stressed out during the summer. From jobs to internships and everywhere in-between, sometimes it’s just too easy to get overwhelmed with responsibilities. Whether you choose to go for a run, blog, or just watch some mindless television, it’s so important that we de-stress in a healthy way.
For me, music always aids in refocusing and adjusting my mood. I always turn to the following ten tunes to help me, so allow me to explain my choices for this week’s super chill playlist, “Time to Relax.”
1. MuteMath – “Valium”
This drug may be used to alleviate anxiety, but MM’s piece is full of gorgeous instrumentals that induce anything but anxious feelings. Lead vocalist Paul Meany impresses with calming lyrics like “I’ll take it slow now/And be all right, we all right…”
2. Radiohead – “Let Down”
Their sound is timeless and ever-evolving, and this song from “OK Computer” is certainly no different. A favorite of a good friend of mine (Hey, John!), this Radiohead song has been all over my Last.Fm charts lately.
3. Barcelona – “Please Don’t Go”
I first learned of Barcelona when I watched this beautiful video of the world’s 2nd largest aquarium. Since then, I’ve been hooked to their entire album “Absolutes.” A complete must-have for relaxation.
4. OneRepublic – “Secrets”
Oh, Ryan Tedder. Why so perf? “Secrets” is a powerful song from their latest album, “Waking Up.” Check out the precious official music video here.
5. Parachute – “The Mess I Made”
Parachute opts to switch their poppy sound for an elegant slow song with “The Mess I Made.” Feel free to watch the official video… I won’t blame you for drooling over lead singer Will Anderson.
6. Sia – “Breathe Me”
Sia’s unique, folky sound shines in this incredibly pretty song. The artist’s gorgeous vocals accompany strong instrumentals for a tune that will adjust anyone’s mood.
7. Third Eye Blind – “The Background”
Stephan Jenkin’s musical genius is clearly evident in this song (and well, any 3EB track for that matter). Its bound to dazzle with lyrical magic like, “Then you come swimming into view/And I’m hanging on your words like I always used to do…”
8. Manchester Orchestra – “I Can Feel a Hot One”
The indie rock band’s slow song commands attention as a particularly unique track off of “Mean Everything to Nothing.” You may recall this one from this steamy Gossip Girl clip.
9. The Fray – “Never Say Never”
Intensity builds in this ballad off of The Fray’s most recent album. Its infectious melody will stay in your head for hours…
10. Coldplay – “Sparks”
Chris Martin’s beautiful vocals soothe in this slow jam from “Parachutes.” Coldplay may be known for songs like “Viva la Vida” and “Clocks,” but this one is definitely worth listening to.
