Fun Facts About The Class of 2014

Every year Beloit College puts out this list called the Mindset List about the incoming class of college students. Apparently it is supposed to help professors avoid references that 18-year-olds will no longer understand. I found the list crazy — I feel pretty different from this class.

Here were some of the things on the list I was particularly surprised by…or just found it funny they were included at all…

  • Few in the class know how to write in cursive.
  • Email is just too slow, and they seldom if ever use snail mail.
  • They never twisted the coiled handset wire aimlessly around their wrists while chatting on the phone.
  • “Viewer Discretion” has always been an available warning on TV shows.
  • Children have always been trying to divorce their parents.

It’s really interesting that this list gets put out every year and there are that many fundamental changes to it.

So to the Class of 2014, is this true?

And to the class of 2013 and older…when looking at the whole list do you feel like you can’t relate to some of them? And when looking at your lists, what did you find entertaining or so true?
