5 Tips for Creating a Strong Profile on Generation Hired

In case you missed it, we recently launched Generation Hired presented by Neutrogena®, a brand new job platform dedicated to helping you land your dream role. It can be tough to navigate the job market these days, and Generation Hired is here to help, making it easy to connect with future employers. Simply create a profile showcasing your skills and talents, and relax while companies reach out to you.

From start-ups to large corporations, there are many opportunities available on Generation Hired. Whether you’re a college student looking for an internship or ready to land your first job, creating a stellar profile is key to making a great first impression. When building your profile on Generation Hired, here are five things every candidate should do:

Write a clear, professional bio.

When a company visits your page, you want them to know how awesome you are! So, be sure to include a clear, professional bio on your profile. Introduce yourself, briefly mention your qualifications and career interests, and encourage employers to learn more about you.

I recommend keeping your bio short and sweet, just 1-2 paragraphs max showing employers who you are and what you can do. Pro tip: no pressure to tell your entire life story — there will be other opportunities on Generation Hired to show off that great personality of yours!

Complete the short answer prompts.

Have you ever applied for a job online and thought, I wish I could show this company more of me. Seriously, same here. Luckily, the “questions” section of your profile is the perfect place to do just that! Here, you can showcase your personality and help businesses get to know you beyond your resume and cover letter. You’ll be asked about your recent accomplishments, topics you’re passionate about, and what you hope to learn in a future internship or job.

Whether you’re obsessed with social media, love crunching numbers, or want to share a cool career achievement, this is your time to shine. Be sure to answer each question thoughtfully while keeping in mind the career you want to have — your responses just might be the extra boost your application needs to land an interview.

Include your availability and location info.

This section is super important for landing a role you’ll truly love. Are you looking for a part-time role, full-time, or somewhere in between? Do you need a flexible internship that fits in with your class schedule? Maybe you prefer an office environment, or you dream of working remotely. Everyone’s situation is different, and it’s helpful to be clear about what you’re looking for.

On your Generation Hired profile, you can also indicate where you want to work. While you may not be ready to move across the country for a job right now, keep in mind that companies may be looking for candidates who are flexible and adaptable. Indicate whether you’re open to remote work or relocating in the future. Be realistic about your lifestyle, and know that keeping your options open can often lead to amazing opportunities!

Highlight experiences you’re proud of.

As a college student or recent grad, you’ve accomplished some incredible things. From editing your school newspaper to singing in choir, your past experiences are unique, and you deserve to feel proud of yourself. On Generation Hired, you can show future employers how your involvement makes you an awesome, well-rounded job candidate.

After uploading your resume and cover letter, head to the “About Me” section to list your work and school involvement. Be sure to include leadership positions, extracurriculars, volunteer activities, study abroad, and anything else that can help paint a picture of who you are.

Upload your digital portfolio.

If there’s anything I’ve learned from my past job searches, it’s the importance of having a quality digital portfolio. Whether you’re a writer, graphic designer, photographer, podcast host, or you recently created a gorgeous media kit, be sure to update your portfolio and upload it to your Generation Hired profile!

If you don’t have a digital portfolio yet, don’t worry — your profile also has sections where you can link to your Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and website. Pro tip: before linking your personal social media handles, be sure to do a quick audit and make sure there’s nothing published online that you wouldn’t want future employers to see.

If you’re in the midst of applying for internships or jobs right now, trust me, I know how difficult the search can be. Creating a profile on Generation Hired makes it easy to create a cohesive, professional online presence that’ll stand out to companies online. With these simple tips, you’ll be on your way to connecting with dream employers and landing a job you’ll love!
