5 Must-Have Products for a DIY Pandemic Spa Day That Are Also Super Affordable

I spend a lot of time these days focusing on self-care. Taking time out of my day to take care of myself and my body has done wonders for my stress levels. In addition to getting enough sleep, drinking water, and eating healthy, I've taken the time to test a ton of different beauty products to find my absolute faves. Here are my top five most affordable (I'm a college student, after all) beauty products for the best at-home spa day.

  1. 1. Bioré Charcoal Whipped Purifying Detox Mask

Charcoal has been all the rage for a while in the beauty world, because it helps absorb trapped bacteria and toxins in the skin. This is the product that made me a believer. This mask is quick, easy, and it gets the job done. After washing your face, slather a generous amount on your skin, and just relax for five minutes – that’s all it takes!

The mask is made for oily skin, and aims to unclog pores by removing the dirt and oil. My skin feels so much fresher each time I wash it off. The cooling menthol makes it very pleasant to sit for a few minutes and chill out while the natural charcoal gets to work.

For around $6, this mask is  super affordable and lasts a long time. The bottle I’m currently using has lasted me almost five weeks, using it three times a week. You get even more than what you pay for with this product.

  2. 2. VERB Ghost Hair Mask

I recently revamped my hair products, and VERB’s Ghost Mask quickly became one of my favorites. This mask works to nourish and moisturize hair. I had residual damage from when I bleached a section of my hair over the summer, but once I slathered this mask on, the difference was almost instantly noticeable (my hair is straight and thin). My hair is as shiny and weightless as when I leave the salon after using this!

It’s so easy, too; after showering, I quickly work the mask through my hair, wait seven minutes, and rinse it out. This bottle has lasted me nearly two months, and I use the product once a week. It’s definitely an affordable steal for healthier, shinier, hair.

  3. 3. Herbivore Coco Rose Exfoliating Body Scrub

This product is a bit more on the expensive side of affordable beauty, but I definitely think it’s worth it. I have never used another  exfoliant that leaves my skin as smooth, shiny, and hydrated as this one. I literally feel like I’m glowing after each use. This scrub differs from other exfoliating scrubs in that it really does stick to your skin – other formulas sometimes seem to fall off, but not this one. It has less than ten ingredients, and no synthetic preservatives.

For an 8 oz. container, you get a decent amount of product, though I do run through it quite quickly, which is my only complaint. However, it leaves skin soft and smelling like roses, so I can’t complain too much. I honestly don’t think I’ll ever switch to another exfoliating scrub again.

  4. 4. Patchology PoshPeel Pedi Cure Intensive Foot Peel

I first encountered a foot peel when a video of a girl doing one came on my TikTok For You Page. My roommate and I knew we had to try one, and I fell in love with Patchology’s product. Foot masks are used to get rid of that dead calloused skin on the bottom of your feet (you know what I’m talking about).

The most important thing to remember is to soak your feet first in warm water for five to ten minutes – otherwise it just may not work. It’s very important to follow the directions carefully. The kit comes with foot mask socks, which you pour the solution into before putting them on your feet. Then, relax for an hour or so, and take the socks off, rinse, and forget about it. In around three to seven days, your foot will begin peeling.

I didn’t start peeling until day five. The pandemic was the perfect time to do a foot peel, because I’m not really going anywhere, so I could strut around in socks all day (I wouldn’t recommend using this if you have to wear flip-flops in the near future). I’ll definitely be doing a foot peel sometime soon – for $20 and feet that feel SO soft, why wouldn’t I want to?

  5. 5. Beautycounter Body Butter in Citrus Mimosa

What I really love about Beautycounter products is that they’re good for my skin. Beautycounter makes products without any of the toxic and harmful chemicals that a lot of other skincare products use. While it’s the most expensive item on this list, I’ve been using this body butter daily for almost a month, and I’m still nowhere near close to finishing the container.

It smells very fruity and leaves my skin feeling soft and glowy. This product is perfect for the wintertime, as it easily heals any cracks or damaged skin. It’s more than worth the money for a body butter that heals with ingredients that I trust in a healthy way.
