After Too Faced released its Sweet Peach palette that smells just like real peaches, fans have grown to expect more than just nice colors when shopping around for a palette. While Too Faced takes the cake for products that smell like they’re more suitable to eat than to put on your face, with brow pencils that smell like brownies and lipstick that smells like peppermint mocha, other brands have been taking note of how their products smell before they hit the market. Tarte’s Tartelette 2 In Bloom Clay Eyeshadow Palette, for instance, has been praised by fans, most noting “it smells great!”

When Kylie Jenner announced early this year that she would also be selling a peach-themed palette, the Royal Peach Palette, fans were quick to ask if this palette would smell like the fruit as well.

Since even those who aren’t makeup lovers began to draw comparisons between The Royal Peach Palette and the Sweet Peach palette, it would be logical to assume that Kylie would keep up with the competition by ensuring that her palette smelled sweet too.

However, when excited fans opened their palettes for the first time, what they smelled was strong and surprising, to say the least. Customers are complaining that the palette stinks of chemicals; instead of comparing it to dessert, and everything good in the world, they’ve compared it to everything from chlorine to spray paint. IDK if its just me, but neither of these scents seems like something I would want anywhere near me… much less on my eyelids.

Seventeen.com has reached out to the brand, asking them to comment on the strange smells that are accompanying their palettes, but has not yet received a response. For now, stay safe. I know that some like to compare putting on makeup to painting your face, but there’s no reason why you should need a respirator mask just to apply a little eyeshadow.
