5 Ways to Amplify Your Look When You're Wearing a Face Mask
Who said wearing a mask had to be boring? One more addition to your outfit means one more accessory to add to your look. If you're hoping to glam-up your beauty game for fall, but don't know where to start, here are a few creative hair and makeup ideas that you can execute with products you probably already have in your home that'll work with, and may even bring a little sparkle to, your mask.Â
1. Match your eyeshadow to your mask
Since your eyes are the only part of your face people can really see behind your mask, you might as well go all out with the look, right?Â
Itâs time to pull out all the stops, and by that I mean all your best eyeshadow palettes. The neons, the nudes, the neutrals â whatever youâve got! If you want to go for something quick and easy, just color match your shadow to a shade in your mask.
If you're looking for something simple, for example, if youâve got a red mask, do a red lid. But if youâve got some time or youâre feeling a little bit boujee, you can try recreating the pattern of your mask on your eyes.Â
Iâve seen incredible Instagram make-up artists recreate works of art through their eyeshadow, and this is just another version of that trend. Who knows? It might even be the thing that makes you go viral! And just FYI, if that happens â run me my check (kidding, mostly).
2. Colorize your wings
While I love a staple black eyeliner, itâs time to switch things up a little. Put some ultra-pigmented and colorful liners in your shopping cart to add some vibrancy to your looks; extra points if you bag some neons! Iâm no stranger to the impact of a perfect winged eyeliner, so imagine your power and potential when you rock a cat-eye using a hot pink liner! You can also match or contrast your liners to your masks to create a cohesive feel.
3. Dye your eyebrows
Okay, I know this sounds like a drastic, life-altering thing to do, but trust me; itâs not that big of a deal when you really give it some thought. Your eyebrows are the smallest patch of hair on your body, so it's much less of a deal to dye your brows than it is to dye your hair, right? But even if my last point isn't super convincing, think about what a bold and empowering move it is!
Dyeing your eyebrows will make you stand out in a sea of folks with blonde, brown and black (you get my drift) hair. Just imagine yourself with pink eyebrows for a season. Who needs makeup to make a statement when you can wake up looking like one every day? Now that seems like a win-win situation to me.
4. Lengthen those lashes
If youâre anything like me, as much as you love how you look in false lashes, you donât have the time nor patience to put them on as often as youâd want to. But now, with a limited canvas (since weâre being responsible citizens and wearing masks), we have no choice but to up our game in any way we can.Â
Stock up on your favorite pair of falsies and practice a new look with all that free time you have in quarantine. Before you know it, youâll be an expert at putting them on and your everyday makeup look will feel incomplete without them. And if youâre feeling a little extravagant, you can use colored mascara to elevate your eyes even more.
5. Give yourself a new 'do
If youâre a little iffy about doing too much to your face, maybe a hair makeover is what you need! Nowâs the perfect time to experiment with a color or cut youâve always thought about. Youâre probably also seeing people significantly less IRL, so if it goes wrong, nobody has to know! And if it goes right, you'll be ready to take on the world during those Zoom meetings. The possibilities are endless: get bangs, dye your hair a funky color, give yourself lowlights â go wild!
