6 Looks All Girls With Medium Length Hair Should Try

You finally decide to go with the trendy long bob like all of your favorite celebrities, but now, you’re absolutely clueless about how to style it. I’ve been there too, unfortunately we can’t all be Nina Dobrev or Emma Stone and have a stylist on command, so you’re going to have to figure out how to style your hair by yourself. Here are a few stylish and easy ways to do your hair with plenty of time to spare before your dreaded 8am class.

1. Beach Waves

Everyone knows you didn’t hit the beach before class, but that doesn’t mean you can’t look like it!

“If I make an effort, I curl my hair with a Revlon curling wand that’s about three inches wide,” recommends Molly Gross, a senior at Bentley University.

Beach waves work perfectly if you want to dress up a regular t-shirt and jeans, but make sure you keep your curls loose so you don’t end up looking like a poodle. Not only is this hairstyle trendy, but it also shows off your length, adds a bit of class, and pulls together any outfit.

2. Not Your Average Ponytail

Maybe you’re hitting the gym after class, but that doesn’t mean you have to throw up your hair in a messy bun. This style is awesome for medium length hair because it ensures your hair won’t be getting in the way when you’re busy. Also, it’s not boring at all.  Add some pep to your usual ponytail by switching it up a bit.

Deirdre Bardolf, a junior at SUNY Old Westbury says, “I love the loop ponytail hairstyle because it’s so easy but looks so classy. I always get compliments on it.”

So, add some pizzazz to your typical ponytail if you work in a professional work or internship environment where you don’t have much fashion and beauty freedom. This simple addition will give you a huge confidence boost and will immediately improve any boring business attire.

3. The Party Bun

Maybe you’re hitting the house party down the street or maybe you’re just trying to make your unwashed hair look presentable. Either way, the party bun is the cutest option for a quick yet fab hairstyle. Not only does it send strong ‘90s vibes, but it’s also an easy way to look like you made an effort to style your hair without trying hard at all.

“It’s my favorite hairstyle of all time because I can pull back the part that hangs in my face but then not have to worry about the part that isn’t in my face,” says Micki Wagner, a junior at the University of Missouri, Columbia.

This style is perfect for a girl on the go that needs a quick transitional hairstyle. People will get to admire your not-too-short, not-too-long hair and you won’t have to worry about your hair making you hot while you’re burning up the dance floor. Who doesn’t love a multi-purpose hairdo?

4. The Classic Pin-Up

If you have curly or wavy hair and want to show off your volume, try pinning a section of your hair back on the side. It will bring attention to your beautiful face and will also contrast the volume that your hair naturally has. This is perfect for you gals who are growing out their bangs or if your hair is in desperate need of a trim.

Sophia Walker, a senior at Bowdoin College, says, “I’ll pin one side back, up, and over and let the volume out on the other side so there’s a bit of an asymmetrical look going on. It’s pretty easy to do, and super stylish.”

Use this hairstyle for a quick fix in between classes, or fake the curly hair texture by using a curling wand, if your hair is naturally straight.

5. The Side Fishtail Braid

Oh, you fancy, huh? You’ll be feeling like a million bucks once you conquer the fishtail braid.

“I always get a ton of compliments, it keeps your hair out of your face and off your neck, and is so easy!” says Ariel Vaisbort, a senior at Western University.

Fishtail braids may look intimidating, but with a little bit of practice you will be a pro. Master the art of this braid and you’ll have a go-to hairstyle for formals, nights out and trips to the beach. This braid puts your length in the spotlight and shows that you do have enough hair to conquer the styles reserved for gals with longer hair.

6. Elegant Updo

Who says you have to wait until your next formal event to rock a gorgeous updo?

Add a little class to your everyday look by trying a simple updo. Not only will this keep your hair out of your face while doing homework but you’ll look great doing it!

With this arsenal of styles, you’ll never utter the phrase, “I don’t know what to do with my hair” ever again. And once you get comfortable with these styles, you’ll be able to experiment and create your own hairstyle, just like the hair guru you were always meant to be. These looks will take you from a trend follower to a trendsetter.
