Victoria Camarena is a journalism student at Ohio University and a member of the Class of 2029. Originally from Virginia, Victoria grew up as a military child, giving her the opportunity to travel and experience different places and cultures. Growing up in new environments taught her how to adapt to change, become independent, and appreciate people with different backgrounds and perspectives. These experiences have influenced her interest in storytelling and learning about the world around her.
Victoria chose journalism because she believes in the power of words to inform, connect, and create change. She is especially interested in social justice and current events and hopes to use journalism to bring attention to important issues and give people a better understanding of the world. Her goal is to become a journalist who tells meaningful stories and gives a voice to people whose experiences deserve to be heard. At Ohio University, she is developing her writing, reporting, communication, and storytelling skills while preparing for her future career.
Outside of school, Victoria enjoys spending time with her friends and family, traveling, meeting new people, and experiencing different cultures. She values creativity, meaningful conversations, and opportunities to learn from others. As she continues her education, Victoria hopes to combine her passion for writing with her desire to make a positive difference through journalism and create stories that inform, inspire, and encourage people to think about important issues.
