Hey everyone, I'm Toni Fletcher, a third-year Journalism student at Temple University and a Philadelphia native. At Temple Her Campus, I'm a staff writer for the Campus Life & News column. My pieces will focus on Temple culture and community. My pieces will cover Temple's community and culture, ranging from low-key, chill stories with other organizations on campus to trivial football games.
Before this school year, I double-majored in Political Science and Journalism. I dropped Political Science in Spring of 26 after doing it for two years. I came into college expecting to go to law school after four years at Temple, but I quickly grew to dislike it. In addition to my duties with Her Campus, I am also the Event Coordinator for Project26, an organization that raises awareness of political issues and learns what matters to students. The club's goal isn't to persuade people of a political preference, but to provide a safe place to discuss personal issues and concerns about what is going on in the political world. As the event coordinator, we hold tabling events, karaoke night, and political discussions. For our first event, we held a get-to-know-the-E-Board event along with a karaoke night. Almost every day, either at the bell tower or outside the Student Center, the organization shared news about the upcoming election and registered people to vote.
When I'm not doing studious tasks, I like to sing and play sports. Though I am not as active in sports anymore, in high school I ran track and played flag football. Not nearly as athletic, but if given the opportunity and time, you could convince me to get on the track and field again. I also loved singing as a child, and music in general calms me down; my current favorite artist is Jazmine Sullivan. Other hobbies that bring me joy include journaling, knitting, and shopping. BAD SHOPPING PROBLEM. Growing up, journaling was always therapeutic and gave me space to forget about anything that was bothering me, like guy trouble, school assignments, and family issues. I also like journaling because I can decorate the journals and books creatively. Knitting was a random hobby I started with my mom, but it's fun to make keychains to decorate my bags. My passion for writing came about in my junior year of high school. My English teacher was extremely hard to pass, and the funny part is that she taught my dad when he attended the school. I passed the class with a 90%, and she also told me I had interesting topics and my writing was good. I didnt want writing to start feeling like a task, but I feel like when you actually love what you are doing, it won't if you keep it interesting.
