Tierra Joseph

ODU '29

My name is Tierra Joseph. I am a Freshman at Old Dominion University studying Strategic Communications and Journalism. I am a member of Old Dominion University’s Queen in You, Black Student Alliance, and HerCampus. A value of mine is to join organizations that represent my core values and beliefs.

I am interested in writing articles that represent me and represent others who are often overlooked. Activism and advocacy are extremely important to me, and it shows through my writing, whether it be interviewing students on campus and sharing their stories or writing about topics that are relevant in the world. I am determined to make a difference with my writing and become a writer post-graduation.

I enjoy writing and researching, with my favorite authors being James Baldwin and Ta-Nehisi Coates. These journalists have inspired me to become a writer myself, and I hope to do the same for others. To further my research skills, I plan to minor in Women and Gender Studies to continue learning about the topics I usually write about. As a writer, I read a lot of sociology and psychology books to help better my understanding of the topics I write about, the world, and its implications.
