Soié Haberman is currently a freshman at the University of Florida and is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Marine Sciences, and is also on the pre-med track. She also plans to get a minor in Spanish. She is excited to explore the intersections of all her areas of studies, and hopes to do research involving marine sciences and medicine.
She grew up in Minnesota, Curaçao, and Gainesville, Florida. While in Curaçao, she realized how most people spoke at least three-four languages, and saw firsthand the effects of industrialization on remote beaches and parks. This led to her having a passion to learn Spanish and protect the environment. Not only does she want to protect the environment, it is also her favorite place. In nature, she loves to scuba dive, walk, watch sunsets or sunrises, and snorkel.
Beyond academics, she spends her free time reading, in the ocean, playing ukulele and singing, or making matcha. She believes the best way to keep learning about the world is through reading and travel, which is part of the reason she wanted to join HerCampus. The idea of college girls from all over writing and coming together to learn from each other is right up her alley.
