My name is Shar Nelson, and I am a journalism student at the University of Florida’s College of Journalism and Communications. I transferred to UF after earning my Associate of Arts degree from Santa Fe College, and I have always been drawn to work that combines creativity, communication, and storytelling. Journalism stood out to me because it gives me the opportunity to ask questions, understand people and communities more deeply, and turn those experiences into stories that are meaningful to others.
Outside of the classroom, much of my experience has centered around social media, photography, public speaking, and nonprofit work. I serve as the Legacy Director of Kada’s Promise, a nonprofit organization that provides teddy bears and comfort items to children in difficult circumstances. Through that role, I help with social media, ambassador outreach, and service initiatives. I have also worked in social media and content creation for pageant organizations, which has allowed me to strengthen my skills in branding, photography, digital storytelling, and communicating with different audiences.
Pageantry has also played an important role in shaping both my personal and professional interests. I currently hold the title of Miss Teen All American 2026, and the experience has pushed me to become a stronger speaker, interviewer, and representative of the organizations I am involved with. It has also given me a better understanding of how media, personal branding, and public presence can shape the way a message is received.
Outside of school and work, I enjoy photography, Pilates, strength training, running, exploring new coffee shops, and creating content. I am especially interested in sports, media, and visual storytelling, and I hope to build a career that allows me to bring those interests together in a way that feels both creative and purposeful.
