Shaden Aly

Toronto MU '27

Hi! My name is Shaden Aly, and I’m a second-year Journalism student at Toronto Metropolitan University. I’ve always been drawn to storytelling in all its forms, and studying journalism has given me the opportunity to explore it through writing, audio, video, and design. I’ve hosted and produced radio at Met Radio, written for The Eyeopener, and taken on the role of Design Lead for the Journalism Course Union, where I created branding and digital content to connect students across the program. I also work part-time as a grant writer for the Canadian Arabic Orchestra, which has helped me sharpen my research and communication skills while supporting meaningful arts initiatives.

I’ve had the chance to bring my love for media to a variety of exciting experiences outside the classroom as well. Volunteering as a videographer at Toronto Fashion Art Week and the Taste of the Middle East Festival allowed me to capture culture, fashion, and performance in real time. These opportunities pushed me to think creatively under pressure while learning how to tell visual stories that highlight people and community. Being fluent in English, French, and Arabic also allows me to connect with a wide range of voices and perspectives, something I value deeply in my work.

When I’m not reporting, filming, or writing, you’ll probably find me exploring Toronto’s food spots, taking photos, or finding inspiration in fashion and design. I’m especially passionate about amplifying underrepresented stories, particularly those of Arab and immigrant women. I see journalism as a powerful way to challenge stereotypes and empower communities. With Her Campus TMU, I’m excited to share stories that inspire, spark conversation, and make readers feel seen.
