Romeesa Naeem

McMaster '28

hey there! my name is Romeesa, and i’m a third-year Humanities student at McMaster University, studying Global Peace and Social Justice combined with English and Cultural Studies. as someone who is relatively new to creative writing outside of academics, i hope to use this opportunity to build my confidence and explore my voice as a writer.

as the daughter of immigrants, i recognize the privilege of pursuing a post-secondary education in a field i’m passionate about. my studies have deepened my interest in social justice, equity, and the ways stories can shape how we understand the world. after graduating, i hope to become a middle or high school teacher, where i can create an inclusive classroom that encourages students to think critically, express themselves, and feel represented in what they learn.

outside of school, i’m a 20-year-old and the third of four sisters, which has greatly influenced my love for writing poetry about sisterhood, girlhood, and the complicated relationships between women. i also love musicals, The Hunger Games, rom-coms, and finding ways to reconnect with my desi culture while growing up and living in Canada. much of my writing is inspired by these interests and by the everyday experiences that shape how i understand myself and the world around me.
