My name is Makenzy Ellison, and I am currently a student at Hampton University, where I am pursuing a major in Journalism with a minor in Sports Medicine. Growing up in Detroit, Michigan, I developed a strong appreciation for storytelling, communication, and the importance of truth in shaping communities. My academic journey has allowed me to combine my interest in media with a curiosity about the health and sports world, giving me a unique perspective on how stories of resilience, wellness, and athleticism can be shared with wider audiences. I hope to use my education to build a career that not only informs but also inspires others.
Outside of academics, I deeply value the connections I make with people. I love to cook and see it as a way of bringing people together, whether it’s preparing a meal for my loved ones or experimenting with new recipes. Spending time with my family is especially important to me, as they are my foundation and source of encouragement. I also enjoy meeting new people and learning from their experiences, which broadens my outlook and helps me grow both personally and professionally.
At my core, I am someone who values good relationships, personal growth, and lifelong learning. I believe that being open-minded and willing to embrace new challenges allows me to develop into a stronger communicator and individual. My goal is to carry these values into my future career, using journalism not just as a profession but as a platform to highlight voices, share impactful stories, and make a difference in the world.
