Maika Sofiya Lansing

New School '28

Maika Sofiya is a committed singer-songwriter, guitarist, and bassist who has been playing for ten years. She was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and recently transferred to The New School where she is pursuing a dual degree in Jazz Performance and Psychology. She has played at the Berklee Performance Center, the opening ceremony of the Boston American Academy of World Music, the annual May Fair at Harvard Square, and has soloed at the renowned Club Passim in Cambridge. Maika is influenced heavily by Madison Cunningham and Joni Mitchell, and she is releasing her debut album soon.

In addition to music, Maika is deeply interested in Psychology and aspires to become a therapist. This is a dream that she has had since she was very young and she is happy to be studying Psychology at such a great college as The New School.

In her free time, Maika loves long-distance running, reading (she runs her own girls' book club! Ask her about it:)), and going for long walks with her friends. She is also very interested in mindfulness and meditation, as well as writing (both songs and short stories). It has been a lifelong dream for her to move to New York City!
