Maella Lemon is a contributing writer to the University of Colorado Boulder's Her Campus Chapter! Additionally, she is a proud participant in both CU's African Student Association (ASA), Black Student Association (BSA), and more recently, Black Women's Alliance (BWA).
Maella is a Pre-Law student majoring in Political Science! If you ask her where it all began, Maella will tell you she’d first fallen in love with words and public speaking in 2019 when she joined the Speech and Debate Team at her high school, eventually becoming co-captain by Senior Year. But the truth is, writing has always been innate for her. A passion intertwined with all her rest, this is the only way she's ever felt understood. She has always felt the most free dancing on pages and singing into paragraphs.
Outside of school, Maella is addictively, still a writer. She journals, compulsively list-makes, and abuses her notes app year round. Usually, you'll find her asleep, hungry, or often both. But, she may also be staring at a canvas plotting her next painting, obsessively reading news headlines, or anywhere with her friends, being anything, but quiet. If you dare get her started, mention any of her favorite watches like Game of Thrones, Anime, or Marvel Movies. Or, tread carefully when you mention the state of the world, and prepare to spend too much time with her. Maella describes herself as many things, a list growing and changing every day. She takes pride in being an immigrant, a black woman, daughter, sister, lover, and friend. And definitely, in being a writer. To her, magic indeed exists at our fingertips.
