My name is Madison Wiesak, and I’m a first-year student at the University of Virginia from Richmond, Virginia. While I haven’t declared a major yet, I plan to apply to the McIntire School of Commerce to explore my interests in accounting and finance. I’m looking forward to building a strong foundation for my academic and career goals through coursework, campus involvement, and hands-on experience.
In the past, I’ve enjoyed learning through different jobs and internships. At a tax firm, I worked as a secretary, where I sharpened my organizational and administrative skills. Later, I interned at a print shop, where I assisted with marketing projects, which provided me with the opportunity to collaborate across teams and develop as a communicator. These opportunities confirmed my interest in business and encouraged me to get involved in student organizations like the Accounting Society, Economics Club, Women’s Business Forum, Common Cents, and Women in Economics.
Beyond academics, I love being active in UVA’s community. I’m part of Her Campus, the club gymnastics team, recreational lacrosse, CHAARG, RUF, and VASST, which have all provided me with opportunities to stay active, meet new people, and take on leadership roles. Balancing classes, activities, and work has been challenging at times, but also rewarding. Looking ahead, I hope to pursue a career in accounting that blends analytical thinking with creativity and leadership.
