UTSA '29

Hello, I am a freshman neuroscience student from Dallas, TX. I love my city for its bright lights, suburban neighborhoods, and the best team in the US, the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders! The football team, on the other hand, would go on another “not-so-cheery” list of mine.

I chose to come to San Antonio as it’s kind of a home away from home for me. I visit San Antonio once a year, so I know my way around, but I wasn’t aware of UTSA until recently.

The idea of having a bird as a mascot made my toxic high school teen brain annoyed at first, but after I stopped judging the bird by its feathers, I’ve come to like it here. I have made amazing friends here and met professors that I would be lost without. I’ve regained my passion for learning again and finished the semester off with success.

I spend most of my days either in the JPL library or in my perfectly decorated dorm room, typing away. My favorite show has been Gilmore Girls for Rory’s great study habits and Lorelai’s witty, dramatic nature motivate me to become a mix of both. I seemingly always find myself focused alongside alternative music. Mazzy Star, Stereolab, and The Strokes in my library were not what I had on my bingo card for 2025, but after decluttering my brain by deleting TikTok and Instagram, I realized how little work I get done with trendy pop music.

My most precious hobby I’m glad college has brought me back to is reading. Lately, the JPL library has introduced me to French literature authors like Grégoire Delacourt, whose astonishing words for a woman’s attitude on love, hatred, and forgiveness provoked me to think he was in my walls!

Closing out my first semester in the Paramore take of the “real world,” I hope my all-nighter-and-coffee-with-a-side-of-coffee days influence me to take more chances in 2026, because there’s no telling what’s possible if you don’t put in the work.
